They were the self-proclaimed 'Vagabonds' who explored the United States in Ford's new automobiles more than a century ago.
In 1914, Thomas Edison, who invented the electric lightbulb, and his good friend Henry Ford kicked off a 10-year exploration of the country.
Their adventures were widely considered the beginning of an unprecedented era of recreational travel that transformed America, including a 1918 trip shared with nature writer John Burroughs and tire manufacturer Harvey Firestone.
