• In 2008, Marc Jacobs was accused of plagiarism for a scarf having the same design of another scarf from the 1950s from Swedish designer, Gosta Oloffson. The two later settled it through monetary compensation.

• Marc Jacobs is notorious for his choices in models for his advertising campaigns. He chose Dakota Fanning to model for him. He had to shrink the clothes and the shoes were made in child sizes.

• In 1984, he won the Perry Ellis Gold Thimble Award and the Chester Weinberg Gold Thimble Award and the Designer Student of the Year Award
