Feng Linzhang was born in Tangshan city, Hebei Province in 1943. He is now member of the Chinese Artists Association, and president of Tangshan Calligraphy and Painting Academy. He was apprenticed to Hou Jutan in his early years and advanced his studies under close supervision of accomplished Chinese painting masters Li Yuxing and Wang Xuetao. From 1959 he continuously toured famous mountains and rivers to gather ideas for paintings. In recent years, he concentrated on Chinese ink-and-wash paintings. He is skilled at flowers-and-birds and landscapes, which are mainly characterized by splash color, elegance in primitiveness as well as spacious feeling in dense composition. In 1986, he was awarded the Distinctive Prize from the Tokyo Modern Ink-And-Wash Painting Association. His works have been exhibited in the U.S., Japan, Italy, Canada, Mexico and Germany. In 1992, he was invited to hold a solo exhibition in Hong Kong and "Paintings by Feng Linzhang" was also published.
