ConventionsIn what ways does your media

product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real

media products?

ExampleIn the kitchen scene where Alex is buttering toast, we

decided to show the knife and the scrapping of the knife on the toast as a creepy sound to make the

audience cringe, but also had connotation of pain, and the red plate showed blood and death to the audience.

Much like Scream for with the girl holding a knife similar to the one she would soon be killed with.

Narrative

I think we worked our narrative well as we portrayed the first scene as a dream and the whole

‘premonition’ side without having to actually verbally tell the audience what was happening, and

did it all through images on screen, like the one above.

Camera Work & Continuity

Perfect part of our film to explain this would be the very first clips shown, where we have extremely quick shots of a character running, which creates a fast paced, on edge

atmosphere for the audience. We also used some unusual angles like from the floor and diagonal to show

something was wrong in the first scene.

Sound

The music for the dream was very fast paced to create the right atmosphere. The music used in the scene after the

dream was mellow and slightly happy, to tell the audience everything is okay for now, with an underlying presence. We

didn’t use much silence as, apart from between the music and the alarm between scenes to make the audience jump.

Mise-en-Scene

Locations were picked out specifically so we could

get the right atmosphere, for example the woods

were perfect for the start. Costumes, specifically

Sam’s, was chosen careful to create contrast

between the blood and the white dress and also to present her innocence.
