AN EXHIBITOR
CASE STUDY
DNV GL, the leading technical advisor to the oil and
gas sector, is a regular exhibitor at SPE Offshore
Europe and 2017 marks its sixth consecutive outing at
the show.
The company has had a prominent stand since 2003 and
sees its attendance as important to directly meet and
discuss industry issues with business leaders, innovators
and influential organisations.
Last year, DNV GL used social media to attract visitors to its
technical seminars on the stand which were always very well
attended and have led to ongoing business discussions.
The company’s new Group CEO Remi Eriksen also led his
first press conference since taking on the role.
A room full of international trade media heard him lift the lid on the
root cause of the industry’s current woes and outline his solutions
on how to reduce complexity and safely cut costs.
The exhibitor marketing and networking opportunities on offer
are very effective, and it brings together companies who have
complex projects operating globally into one place, giving the
opportunity to discuss projects. The press conference room in
particular is always of great value to DNV GL. It gives us a
platform to tell our story whether it’s a joint industry project, a
research subject or a contract award. Last year we also used
the VIP meeting room facilities to meet with one of our key
clients which worked well.
Our expectation was that the show itself would be
quieter in 2015 due to the downturn. The reality was
quite different for us and that shows the importance
and benefits that SPE Offshore Europe can bring to
those working in the industry, even in difficult times.
Budget considerations have meant that DNV GL is being more
selective in where it exhibits in future. “We want to make an impact
and we are mindful of the cost. SPE Offshore Europe is a major
show for DNV GL. If we invest in the show we work very hard to
make it work for us. So deciding to exhibit is just part of the story.
For 2017, the Decommissioning Zone
will be an interesting addition to the
proceedings. It is important that the
conference represents all phases of the
asset lifecycle.
It’s a huge opportunity to meet customers and
discover their challenges. The conference
generally covers the key areas that are common
to all the operators, but the networking is where
the show comes into its own. If you work hard to
meet that elusive customer, perhaps you can
move a little bit closer towards understanding
their needs.
