Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (abbreviated BSNL) is an
Indian state-owned telecommunications company .
headquartered in New Delhi.
It has 24 telecom circles, 2 metro districts, 6 project circles, 4
maintenance regions, 5 telecom factories, 3 training
institutions and 4 specialized telecom units.
SERVICES PROVIDED BY BSNL
C-DOT DSS MAX-XL
Cellular Mobile Telephone Services
3G
Internet
WiMax
WLL-CDMA Telephone Services
Universal Telecom Services
Intelligent Network (IN)
VVoIP
All telephone subscribers areserved by automatic exchanges.
Today’s automatic exchanges usesa pair of computers.
One, running the program thatprovides services.
Second, monitoring the operation of the first, ready to take over in a few seconds in the event of equipment failure.
Various exchanges present in BSNL are:
C-DOT OCB EWSD
ABOUT THE EXCHANGE
MDF
Power plant
Switching Room
MAIN DISTRIBUTION FRAME(MDf)
Local cable contact at MDF .
All types of cables out to the door contact connection at MDF .
The primary function of MDF is to remove fault. It is also known as Fault Remove Section.
As we know that, the power is the main source or any organization.
The main source of this exchange is AC supply.
The main part of power room are:-
1. Batteries
2. UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply)
3. Charging - Discharging Unit
4. Inverter and Converter Unit
C-DOT DSS MAX is a universal digital
switch which can be configured for
different applications as local, transit,
or integrated local and transit switch.
High traffic/load handling capacity
upto 8,00,000 BHCA with termination
capacity of 40,000 Lines as Local
Exchange or 15,000 trunks as Trunk
Automatic Exchange.

BASIC BUILDING MODULES
BASE MODULE(BM)
BM-XL is the basic growth unit of C-DOT DSS. It
Interface the external world to the switch.
C-DOT MAX-L & C-DOT MAX-XL can contain
maximum 16 & 32 BM respectively.
BM consists of 4 TU(Terminal Unit), 1 BPU(Base
Processor Unit) and 1 TSU(Time Switch Unit).
BM also Define the TEN number of subscriber. For
example subscriber have directory no. 222999
shows the TEN no. as 1-1-1-5-4. then the first digit
shows BM no. 2nd shows line module no. 3rd shows
frame no. 4th shows card no. & 5th shows slot no.
The basic functions of a Base Module are –
Analog to digital conversion of all signals on
analog lines and trunks
Interface to digital trunks
Switching the calls between terminals
connected to the same Base Module
Communication with the Administrative
Module via the Central Module for
administrative and maintenance functions
Provision of special circuits for call
processing support e.g. tones,
announcements, MF/DTMF
senders/receivers
GLOBAL SYSTEM FOR
MOBILE COMMUNICATION
(GSM)Global system for mobile communication (GSM) is a
globally accepted standard for digital cellular
communication.
GSM is the name of a standardization group established in
1982 to create a common European mobile telephone
standard GSM is a cellular network which means that mobile phones
connect to it by searching for cells in the immediate vicinity.
GSM operates in the 900 MHz frequency band.

Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave
Access.
Is a certification mark for products that pass
conformity and interoperability tests for the
IEEE 802.16
provides wireless data over long distances
in a variety of ways, from point-to-point links
to full mobile cellular type access .
Speed
– Faster than broadband service.
Wireless
– Not having to lay cables reduces cost .
– Easier to extend to suburban and rural
areas.
Broad coverage
– Much wider coverage than WiFi
hotspots.
