The ability to interpret, use and create visual media in ways that advance thinking, decision making, communications, and learning.

NOT inherent, but a learned skill You don’t learn to write by reading so you don’t

become visually literate by watching TV Technologically aware does NOT = visually

literate. Seeing is NOT believing anymore.

THE FUTURE

Visual Will continue to grow. Digital natives will use it through elementary,

high school and college. Students will expect instructors to use visuals

in their teaching.

Increases absorption of visual images Remember 10% of auditory after 3 days. Add images and retention is 65%. Schools have equipped classrooms with basic

technology to support projection of visual and textual information.
