Preview the material to be presented before the lecture especially if you are not familiar with the information.

You need to comprehend the meanings of the words and the ideas they convey. This is so you can understand what is being said.

In class put all distractions aside and give undivided attention to the lecture.

Before you can give good notes, you must listen well.

Tune into what you are hearing.

You need a good balance between the time you spend listening and the time you spend writing.

Some information may be summarized on a power point slide, so listen for possible test questions.

The speed of which you take notes is significant, knowing shorthand or being able to generate your own style of brevity is valuable, begin by creating specific symbols.

Drawing pictures or graphic sketches is a great way to take notes. A single picture may save writing many words.

Skim threw notes each day for a quick overview of what you learned.

Summarize your notes in one or two sentences at the bottom of each page.
