Respect for the environmentin my town,Melissia,Greece

Α wide net of recycling different materials is spread all around our town!!

Recycling of cans,tins,paper and glass bottles

We don’t recycle just for the environment but for other good purposes ,too.So, we collect plastic cups from

bottles in order to buy wheel chairs for people in need.

Some years ago ,a big fire destroyed the forest in the mountain of Pendeli.So,two or three times a year volunteers gather and

plant new trees and water them in order to recreate the old forest.

Cleaning the streams of Pendeli and Melissia

Cleaning the streams is very important for the circulation of water and the balance of the ecosystem.

In order to avoid destruction from fire during summer, we clean plots from dry grass.

Activities about the protection of the environment at our school

We belong to the European net of Eco- Schools

Our pupils learn about the protection of the environment and recycling from a young age through

board games,

puzzles,books,

…and lots of arts and crafts.

Enjoyable recycling activities

Making puppets from recycled materials and give them names.

Moving a step forward…Pupils write stories with heroes these puppets.

They illustrate their stories.

They finally perform a play in class…

…and show it to the other classes.

Make tree ornaments for ChristmasMake fish for summer.

Making handmade soap in class from oil from cooking

Pupils collected bottles of cooking oil at home,and a mother

came in class and made soap from it with the pupils.

The soap was kept for one month to dry

Mrs Katerina cut the fresh soap in pieces.The dry soap was ready to use after one month.

One step further….Pupils brought old cloth,ribbons to wrap the soap in presents.

They gave some of them to teachers and pupils from other classes.

Our pupils participate in the reforestation of the mountain of Pendeli.

• They use digging tools ..

• and plant small trees.

At the same time ,they enjoy nature and collect wild flowers.
