Why PDHPE in Primary Schools?

PDHPE is important within the Primary

curriculum Promotes physical activity

which helps in: Healthy growth and development Better self-esteem Stronger bones, muscles and

joints Better posture, balance and

weight Social interaction with friends Better focus and concentration

during school.

The American Heart Association recommends that, ‘all children aged 2 and older should participate in at least 60 minutes of, moderate-intensity physical activities every day that are developmentally appropriate and varied’.

Development of skillsChildren develop the following skills:

Communicating Decision Making

Interacting Moving

Problem Solving

Development of values & attitudes in terms

of: Own worth and dignity Sense of belonging Accepting responsibility

for personal & community health

Regular physical activity Commitment to realize
