MAKING GOOD STUFF WITH
A BETTER STAFFDeveloping library sta skills in North Karelia, Finland
Optimistic attitude
No fear! Technological environment changes, so do we. Be yourself, learn more skills and share your
knowledge.
New ideasof training
Long distances + small libraries = problem? Not for us! The instructor travels. Online communication. Open source learning
platform.
It's open
source, baby!
We have Koha and Moodle. You can have them too! Open source systems
are available for everyone.
Patrons participate in developing library services and contents.
Anyone can join in customer panels.
We invite patrons To be involved!
we do it better, when We do it together
One shared web library. One shared library system. One shared future.
PROJECT DIAMONDDeveloping know-how in
North Karelia public libraries
Public libraries in North Karelia (Finland) will move to the free and open source Koha Integrated Library System (ILS) during summer 2014. Simultaneously libraries start using one shared web library. In changing technological environment the personnel will need new skills.
Individuals trained in the project will develop their expertise in order to better meet the new standards of working life as well as the demand for technological development in the future.
Another important target group is library patrons. Patrons can participate in developing both new web library and other library services. One example is to set up customer panel and work with them continuously.
North Karelia is sparsely populated, has long distances and small library units - how to enable peripheral participation and to create a professional network or how to take part in professional development when working in a small unit?
The solution the instructor travels, not the students. This will be carried out along with distance instruction, participation and online communication via our own Moodle - open source learning platform (discussion forum, study materials etc.)
Thank you for w atching!
