Alternate Reality

Young (Jenny) ChiPHYS 122 Final Project

In Quantum Physics, the idea of alternate realities is presented in scientific data and theories. It explores the possibilities of identifying the alternate realities and even traveling into and out of them. With logic and solid information as essential tools, the investigation for alternate realities continues.

However, science is not the only way we interpret alternate realities. Some people combine physics and psychology with some religious beliefs and say that dreams are the peek-holes to the alternate realities out there.

As for visual art, the idea of alternate realities is expressed through surrealism, which combines the real world we live in and the unique imagination of the artists to result in a new world. The most representative surrealism artist is Salvador Dali, whose works, created from mind-boggling imagination, seem to depict possible scenes from the alternate realities we seek.

Surrealism is also expressed through modern furniture designs:

These furniture designs are obviously impractical for our use in this world, but the imagination in creating these shows that perhaps these designs are perfect for some other world we are not aware of yet.

Reminiscent of Dr. Seuss’s illustrations, these designs make the viewer imagine a different world where inhabitants would actually find these designs useful.
