Patterning
With your child, discuss the pattern - how does it repeat? The repeating pattern is the change in color: dark orange, light orange, dark orange, light orange, dark orange.
Next, have your child repeat the pattern with the pumpkins – dark orange, light orange, dark orange, light orange, dark orange

Patterning
Patterning is a skill that fosters decoding – the reading of unknown
words. Working with picture patterns will later assist children in
recognizing letter patterns to read words. All words consist of
letters and letter patterns that must be positioned in a certain order
to form a word. Children will later learn about CVC words, CVC
silent-e words, vowel patterns, consonant blends and digraphs.
These are all patterns that are used for decoding. Fun, early
patterning activities done at home will help to prepare your child
for reading success.
