Why study Geography?

Learning objectives

• To find out some of the reasons why Geography is one of many very important subjects to study.

• To investigate what topics GCSE Geography includes.

• To consider why studying Geography might be useful to you in the future.

Geography

The word is taken from the latin:Geo – the earth

Graph – writing and drawing

To study Geography is to find out as much as you can about the earth, the places and spaces on it and the people in these places.

It is a very wide ranging subject that can involve scientific and or artistic studies.

What might I study?

The film ‘Up’ is very much a geographical film with a great many themes.

Can you fill in the worksheet by finding just a few of the themes in the film that are part of our GCSE studies.

Geographers are very sort after by employees and work in a wide range of different roles you might not think of. Including lawyers, retail managers, sports people and community workers.

Choose a Geography GCSE and never look back after all you will choose a whole world of confidence, skills and knowledge....
