The Student

Hi! I’m Ruby Shanne M.Condes, a 3rd year student taking up Bachelor of Secondary Education (Major in Mathematics) at Cavite States University- Main Campus. I am recently residing at Stateland Hills Subd., Manggahan ,General Trias , Cavite.

The Student

• This portfolio contains the summary of some of the topics regarding educational technology , my realization and learning I have gained through the subject.

Educational Technology in a Nutshell

The goal of the course is to experience the role of educational technology as a part of the possibilities and demand of learning society in different learning context. It aims to infuse technology in the student-teachers training helping them to meet and adapt to rapid and continuing technological changes , particularly in communication technology environment.

• Technology is “a channel for helping teachers communicate better with students” not an end unto itself.

• It equips the future teacher to become more effective and efficient in her day to day task and help the would -be teacher become familiar, knowledgeable and skilled at the proper application of educational technology to instruction.

• A useful tools for helping students with learning problems an offers them the experimental process of adapting to technology integration within a student –center paradigm.

Educational Technology in a Nutshell

Dale’s Cone of Experience

Cone of Experience was originally developed by Edgar Dale in 1946 and was intended as a way to describe various learning experiences.

Dale’s Cone of Experience

The diagram shows how Edgar Dale’s “Cone of Experience”)-organized learning experiences according to the degree of concreteness each possesses.

Dale’s Cone of Experience

At the bottom is hands-on experience. As you ascend the one, concrete experience begins to drop out with stimuli becoming to abstract ; the stimuli require more skill on the part of the learners to interpret the messages they carry.

Teachers Role in the Learning Process

• From this perspective , the teacher is controlling the learning most of the time , and the child is responsible for following instruction.

• Different types of educational experience exist-from hands-on apprenticeships to role-playing , from demonstrations to reading printed text.

• Some educators believe that different experiences are more less effective for achieving different types of instructional outcomes.

Media in the Learning Process

• Media are used to help the learner achieved the learning objectives more effectively and efficiently.

• Some of this media are used to create readiness in the learners for learning experiences .

• They provide clarity , precision and accuracy in processing information .

• They create visual images which help retention of the learnt concepts.

Instructional Media

A good aid is like a window , it should not call attention to itself , it should just let in the light.

Media in Instruction

As a rule , educational experiences that involve the learner physically and that give concrete examples are retained longer than abstract experiences such as listening to a lecture . Media can be used to gain attention , recall prerequisites , presents objects to the learners , present new content , support learning through examples and visual elaboration , and enhance retention and transfer.

Types of Instructional Media• Printed text Display boards Television• • • • • Printed visual Interactive whiteboards Audio

• • •

• Computer software , etc.

The Four Types of IT-Based Projects

• Guided Hypermedia Projects As a communication tool , such as when students do a multimedia presentation(with text , graphs , photos , audios , narration , interview , video clips, etc.to simulate a television , news show).• Web-Based Projects Students can be made to create and post webpages on a given topic.

The Four Types of IT-Based Projects

• Resource –Based Projects The teacher steps out of the traditional role of being an content expert and information provider ,and instead lets the student find their own facts and information.• Simple Creations Students can also be assigned to create their software materials to supplement the need for relevant and effective materials.

The Six Fluency Skills

1.Solution Fluency refers to the capacity and creativity in problem

solving.2.Information Fluency this involves 3 subset of skills , namely:a.) an ability to access informationb.) an ability to retrieve informationc.) an ability to reflect on

The Six Fluency Skills

3.Collaboration Fluency refers to teamwork with virtual or real partners in the online environment.4.Media Fluency there is a need for an analytical mind to evaluate the message in a chosen media as well as a creative ability to publish digital messages.

The Six Fluency Skills

5.Creativity Fluency Artistic proficiency adds meaning by way of design ,art, and story telling to package a message .Font ,patterns ,layout are elements to creative fluency.6.Digital Ethics The digital citizen is guided by principles of leadership, global responsibility , environmental awareness , global citizenship and personal accountability.

Learning through Ed Tech 1 and 2

The educational technology course has really helped me to get an understanding of what digital literacy really is and adjustments that teachers will have to make in order to effectively teach the 21st century students including simulations in the teaching learning process.     Technology can be difficult but it’s important that we try. I have learned to accepted the opportunity to explore educational technology. It tends to hold the student attention longer and involve active student participation.

Learning through Ed Tech 1 and 2• It leads us to the realization that technologies

definitely change individual’s life. People of todays appear smarter not only the learners .

• Educational technologies help me on how to become a competitive student and for becoming an effective educator someday.

• Having technology can make learning interesting , exciting and active students.

• As educators they must be clear on what basic knowledge ,skills and values need to be developed by digital learners.

Learning through Ed Tech 1 and 2• Through educational technology course, I have

learned that the art of teaching are not skills that we gain over night, but as future educator we have to develop these skills through extensive practice and analysis of the 21st  century learner .

• We should be at the frontline, up-to-date with access to software we can use with our students.

• As educators of our nation’s future leaders, we should encourage and be able to foster the development of our students’ use of technology.

As future educator , for our students to succeed in today’s world, instead of ignoring the ever

changing technology , we are going to embrace it . It essential that we prepare them with skills and tools that they need to live in the digital age. The most important thing is not to use technology in

the curriculum more , but to use it more effectively. ”

Learning through Ed Tech 1 and 2

Steve Ballmer

• The number one benefit of information technology is that it empowers people to do what they want to do . It lets people be creative . It lets people learn things they didn’t think they could learn before , and so in a sense it is all about potential.

Jean Piaget
