Ancient Italy - Roman Empire

Mythology

• Roman god of wine: Bacchus

• Bacchanalia = wild festivals took place celebrating Roman god Bacchus

• The term bacchanalia is often used to indicate wild, drunken "partying"

• Modeled after the French AOC system• Government controls began in 1960s; updated regularly
