IIT JEE 2017: Here’s everything you need to know

The results for IIT JEE Advanced 2016 has been declared and the students have

already started preparing for JEE Main 2017. The exam to get through one of the

most reputed engineering colleges requires a lot of preparation and proper planning

to complete the syllabus. But before all that one needs to have a fair knowledge

about the exam and it’s procedure.

About JEE:

JEE is one of the most competitive exams in India conducted by the Central Board

of Secondary Examination (CBSE). There are two facades of this examination, one

is to clear JEE Main and then JEE Advanced to get through IIT, NITs, or other

centrally funded institute. Although IIT considers the results of both JEE Main +

marks of Class 12 or other equivalent boards. The eligible candidates can choose to

pursue either Engineering or Architecture.

Fees & Passing Criteria:

The Ministry of Human Resource Department has recommended to set up an

Aptitude Test for IIT-JEE 2017 after which 4 lacs student will be shortlisted and

then 40,000 students will be provided with a rank for admission in IITs, NITs, and

other central institutes.

A fee hike is indicated for JEE 2017, the Indian Institute of Technology is planning

to increase its fee from 90,000 INR to 300,000 INR. The Ministry stated that the

infrastructure for the students’ needs to be improved, also that government is

already spending 6 lakhs on per student over and above, as the reason behind the

hike.

As for the eligibility criteria for clearing JEE Main 2017, it has been decided as such:

● As per the Ministry of Human Resource, the marks of Class 12 are considered

as an eligibility only to get admission in IIT, NIT’s and similar institutes.

To qualify for JEE Examinations the candidates must have the following:

● 75% marks in 12th Class Examination conducted by respective boards or be

in top 20 percentile.

● For SC/ST candidates the percentage is 65%

● The candidate must have 50% in aggregate in Physics, Math’s, and

Chemistry

● The candidate must have minimum 5 subjects in Class 12

Over and above these, some basic criteria includes:

● Candidates to appear for IIT JEE 2017 must be born on or before 1st October

1992

● A candidate can attempt IIT JEE examination for 3 times only.

Exam Pattern and Syllabus:

The JEE Main 2017 has two papers, namely Paper I and Paper II.

Paper I: This is for candidates who want to apply for B.Tech/B.E. It includes 90

OMC questions from Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics.

Paper II: This is for Candidates who wish to appear for B.Architecture/Planning, it

includes 82 questions- 30 questions from Mathematics, 50 questions from aptitude

test and 2 questions from drawing test.
