Definition Legally it can be defined as an act

done with an intent to give some advantage inconsistent(i.e. not in agreement) with official duty and the rights of others.

Examples like criminal offence of bribery, extortion, fraud, deception, collusion, cartel, or similar offence.

It is the abuse of public resources or misconduct for private gain.

Causes:

High political competition; High and uneven economic growth; a weak civil society; the absence of institutional

mechanisms to deal with corruption.

Conditions :

Corruption tends to increase in a period of rapid growth and modernization.

A country’s ratio of political to economic opportunities affects the nature of corruption.

There tends to be less corruption in countries with more social stratification, more class polarization and more feudal tendencies

Factors Responsible for Corruption:

The most important factor is the nature of the human being.

Moral and spiritual values are not given utmost importance in educational system, which is highly responsible for the deterioration of the society.

The salary paid to employees is very less and as a result of which they are forced to earn money by illegal ways.

The punishments imposed on the criminals are inadequate.

The political leaders have spoiled the society completely.

People of India are not awakened and enlightened.

Measures To Control Corruption:

Right to Information Act (RTI) .

Central Vigilance Commission (CVC).

Strong and stringent laws .

Establishment of special courts for speedy justice .
