Origin

Oriental Dance originated in the Middle East

Ritual to fertility and nature

Ghawazees (Gypsies): female traveling dancers

“Las Ghawazee”, Fotolog (Web)

The new areas the ghawazees travelled to already had traditional dances

Traditional dances + Oriental dance = Fusion was born

In 1920s a more Contemporary/Cabaret style was developed in Egypt

Western Hemisphere became attraced

They named it as: Belly Dance
