Historical Newspapers’ DigitizationCurrent state of digitization:• most of the historical newspapers have been

digitized;• among them all Slovenian newspapers and

journals important for history and culture;• all German language newspapers published on

the Slovenian territory;• more than 600.000 objects.

Challenges

• placement of newspapers in the context of a whole digital library;

• articles vs. issues;• full text search through all text materials:– limitation of the large number of results,– filters,– provide to user the results of full text search as

immediate answer;• inflected language;• old alphabets (Metelko alphabet, etc.).

Historical newspapers’ accessibility inside the digital library

Articles versus issues

Users don’t prefer only the articles without the content of a particular issue.
