WELCOMEto Henry Street Settlement’s

Youth Services Division

Our Mission

Henry Street's Youth Services Division helps young people achieve academic success, develop their social, workplace, and leadership skills, and strengthen their emotional well-being. Each year, nearly 4,000 young people — ages two to 24 — benefit from our programs.

Camp Services

Each summer, nearly 300 children attend Camp Henry, Henry Street’s day camp. The camp is licensed by the New York City Department of Health and accredited by the American Camping Association.

Early Childhood

Our center provides quality child care from 8 am to 6 pm daily. Day Care staff speak Spanish, Mandarin and Cantonese. UPK curriculum is provided to all four year olds each morning.

After-School Services

We offer exciting and enriching after-school programs at four neighborhood schools — PS 20, PS 134, PS 110, and UNMS — and at our two community centers — here at 301 Henry Street and at the Boys and Girls Republic on East Sixth Street — that together benefit close to 800 children annually.

After-Care at 301

We currently have openings in our fee-based after-school program here at 301 Henry Street. The fee is $65 per week, which includes pick-up from local schools, healthy snacks, homework assistance, numerous enrichment activities, and dinner.

Adolescent Services

The Adolescent Services Department offers two key programs to young people.

Our Youth Employment Programs provide work readiness training and paid internships.

Our Expanded Horizons College Prep Program provides assistance with all facets of the college application process.

In-School Youth Employment

The In-School Youth Employment Program provides participants with a 5-week Career Lab, which teaches young people hard and soft skills they need to be successful in the world of work. Upon completion of the lab, youth are placed in paid internships in a field of their choosing.

College Preparation and Retention

Expanded Horizons College Program offers juniors and seniors every service needed to help them get into college: SAT prep, Regents Prep, tutoring, College 101 Workshops, college counseling, essay writing, college trips and more. This year, 71 youth also received college scholarships through Henry Street.

Young Adult Internship Program

The Young Adult Internship Program serves youth 16 to 24 years of age who are not in school or working. Young people are paid to complete three weeks of work readiness training followed by an eleven-week internship. Job and education program placement follows, including GED classes.

Summer Youth Employment

The Summer Youth Employment Program places thousands of youth in summer jobs and provides them with work-readiness and life skills training.

SYEP applications will be available April 1, 2010.

BGR Evening Program

The BGR Evening Program provides young people with access to a variety of recreational activities, GED classes, and employment assistance.
