New Land• Europeans set out to colonize present day

Jamestown, Virginia.• They expected easy trade and communication with the

native tribes living there.• They thought there would be an abundance of

resources to trade with the Indians.

Hardships• The ships that set out

for Jamestown got lost and were facing starvation.

• When they finally found land a settlement was built, not focusing on defense.

• The many Indian attacks were harsh and unexpected.

• Many also died from diseases caused by the contaminated water.
