Hypothesis

If a 1:1 ratio of Chromebooks, used collaboratively, increases Advanced Biology Student’s ability to interpret and analyze data, then 50% of students will increase their level of proficiency at least one step.

Project GoalsSmart Goal 1:  By the end of the first quarter of the second semester, 50% of students in Advanced Biology will improve in their ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data to form conclusions by increasing their level of proficiency at least one step as evidence from a standardized rubric.

Smart Goal  2:  By the end of the first quarter of the second semester, 100% of students in Advanced Biology that are students identified as Latino in eSIS will improve in their ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data to form conclusions by increasing their level of proficiency at least one step as evidence from a standardized rubric.

Technology

• 40 Google Chromebooks o 1 device : 1 studento Web-based applications:

GoogleDocs, Blogs, Videos, Lab Simulations, Animations

o "Flipped" Classroom with at home video lectures

Data Collection: Methods1. Lab Assessments:

1.Common standard rubric assess ability to present, interpret, and analyze data.

2.Four labs conducted during first semester

2. Student/Parent Cite Council1.Monthly discussions on current data, troubleshooting,

student & parent perspective• Improvements/ changes made immediately

3. Student Technology Feedback Survey1.Focuses on the following: general and educational

technology use, comfort, technology influence on learning, etc

• Given four times during first semester

Supporting Factors

• Collaboration between two teachers• Experimentation with tools available • Cross curricular use of Google Docs increased

student familiarity• Teacher familiarity with tools and comfort in trial

and error

• 1:1 Device ratio

Hurdles• Chromes Not Best Fit For Science Classrooms

o Unable to download software for advanced simulationso Incompatible with Vernier probe ware

• Future Use In Heterogeneous Classrooms  o Access to reliable computers & internet at homeo Limited library hours

• Training  & Support • Getting Devices Before Routines Established

Suggestions• Support and training for new technology devices

• Opportunity to request or apply for small scale needs

• Don't use Google Chromebooks in science classes, writing labs yes
