Animals Lemurs are the most endangered primates.

There are 32 different kinds of lemurs that exist today. Sixteen species have become extinct.

Lemur means ghost in Latin because they are nocturnal.

They live on Madagascar, an island near Africa.

ClimateThe Madagascar climate is hot and sub-tropical, it is colder in the mountains, while the south and west parts of the country are hot and dry.

The island is ringed by golden beaches and palm trees, and has volcanoes, forests and rivers.

Food

People in Madagascar eat fruits like bananas, avocado, papayas as well as rice and a variety of seafood.

Sea LifeIn the sea around Madagascar there are 5 different species of marine turtles, 56 shark species, 300 types of coral, and 1,300 kinds of fish.

These include Humpback Dolphins, sea cucumbers and shells.

LanguageMalagasy is the national language of Madagascar.
