Abraham Lincoln was the president during the Civil

War.

He was determined to keep the United States of

America united as one country.

He gave one of the most famous speeches in US

history…The Gettysburg Address

The Gettysburg Address is still a renowned speech today because of its depiction and appreciation

for the freedoms given in America as well as a profound dedication to fallen heroes in the Civil War.

Lincoln was responsible for the Emancipation

Proclamation in 1863.

The Emancipation Proclamation declared

freedom to the slaves in the Confederacy.

Some facts about Lincoln.

Lincoln did not go to school. He taught himself

how to read and write.

Abraham Lincoln was also known as “Honest Abe” because he was apt to

always being honest and trustworthy, going out of

his way to prove his character.

He was a member of the Republican Party.

He was married to a woman named Mary Todd and had four children with

her.

He passed the National Banking Act in 1863 which resulted in standardized

currency

Lincoln was assassinated on April 14th, 1856 at Ford’s

Theatre in Washington by an actor named John Wilkes

Booth.
