• The movements which took place in the 19th century where: Realism, Romanticism, Impressionism, post- impressionism and also the Hudson river school movement.

• Realism vs Romanticism- Realism was an early art movement which began in France in the 1850’s after the revolution which took place in 1848. Realism was the movement which followed the way of portraying the subject in its organic form an example of this is if a artist is painting a person they will use their media to make the person look as though it is being seen as the eye can, for this reason the realist artists rejected the Romanticism movement which used the opposite technique, which was going against the realism of nature and how things are seen by the eye. The Romanticism started as a reaction to the industrial revolution. The industrial revolution was the transition which took place 1760 to some time between 1820 and 1840. The changes included the transition from hand production to machine production, the use of steam increased and the development of machinery, increased efficiency of water power and also the change from wood to other bio-fuels to coal. The industrial revolution started in England and the spread to western Europe and the United States within a couple of years. The industrial revolution caused some severe effects on society. One of the effects on society was reduced standard of living, this affected the part of the population which was at the bottom of the economic ladder, which was the biggest fraction of the population, this was found by an academic census taken by Shelia V. Hopkins. But in 1813-1913 there was a wage significant wage increase.
