>>>Central to the condition and planning of the city of Biloxi today are 2 issues: the lack of any sort of infrastructural connectivity and the often occurrence of flooding. The SpongeCity proposes a porous and changing landscape that generates new public spaces and wet-lands at waterfront to absorb impact of flood-ing while also introduces new ways of public interaction with the wetlands; and establish-ment of new kinds of complex connectivity between the immediate site and its surround-ing regions to completely alter the lack of infra-structure within the city of Biloxi.

Eden Village will be a model community, lo-cated right outside the urban centers of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The design has been based on advice and feedback from researches regarding disaster relief, sustainable agri-culture, and micro-financing. The village will provide:1. Food assistance centers for local food ex-change2. Grain storage centre for Common kitchen3. Community gardens for establishing a local food source4. Common kitchen for underserved Haitians living in the area5. Small trade training facility and business incubator to educate and help Haitians un-derstand trading business better in order to achieve a more organized trading commu-nity.

inspired by both the sense of ambiguity existant in richter’s art and that of which in the unique circulation of rem koolhaas’s mai-son a bordeaux, a series of explorations of spaces rendered as in-between spaces were initiated with the intention of bringing to-gether the artifice dialectics between three thicknesses: city, landscape/nature, and art, diminishing the physical and conceptual sep-arations of these elements from one another.

The location of the house makes it an ideal place for spectacular views of both the old and the new city. The roughly 30,000 square feet, 4 bedroom and 3.5 bath unit is specifi-cally designed to be a machine of different energy zones that releases or compresses (due to height, openness, brightness change, etc. ) to bring a sense of liveliness into the house. On the street level, a diagonal was set up to frame the north-south axis, allowing the house to act as a giant solar clock. On the second level, the diagonal continued on as a staircase onto the roof terrace.

>>> protozoa inspired design>>>instructor: carrie hunsaker
>>>jan 2011-feb 2011>>>2nd year studio
the project begins with an interest to find out how architecture and spatial dynamics can be generated through the study of single cell organisms in this case, protozoa.the final design celebrates the nature of each creature in terms of their function, form, as well as motion. the manifestation of the beauty of these creatures was done by ex-tracting out and combining the advantages of creatures to form a hybrid. the hybrid adopts the idea of “birth” of a space. it takes on a literal role of taking something inside of a space and then pushing it out into another space.the resulting hybrid is a combination of the twisting form of paramecium and the fish-fin shape of amoeba. the fish fin may propell the hybrid to move faster, as well as generating current sideways to cause the hybrid body to twise, the oral groove seizes this chance to suck the food and prey into the body.

>>>Fall 2012>>>visual practice
The project sets out to make present issues in social space that, for some reason, is not pres-ent. In the process of constructing conditions of presentation, the first step is to set up the re-lation of those conditions (physical and visual) to our own spatiotemporality by offsetting the two types of condition to create an in-between space, in which we insert in our spatiotemporal existence. With an iconic imagery present in the background, a constructed event set up in the foreground, and a spectator appear present in between those two conditions (through the re-flection in a mirror) swaying back and forth, not sure which happening he or she should linger into in that particular moment in time… Such an “in-between” reveals an ultimate reality that is stripped away from its conventional form and context of the illusory world, achieving a sense of “really real” that could not be defined, perceived, or conceived clearly or uniformly.

>>>Fall 2012>>>visual practice
>>>continued...Today’s machine automation and social sur-veillance has spoiled us and stripped us away from a habit of thinking; in and through that, the content of the society is lost. The purpose of this project is to bring one back to such a way of thinking, through means of visual as well as bodily engagement. Mirrors and one-point perspective tool were used to create full-embodiment of the audience; through process as such, an audience turns into a participant. Therefore, if the conventional question to ask here is “what does content do for you”, we would ask our participants a new question, “what can you do for content?”
through an “in-between” realitybring one back to an active way of thinking through means of vi-sual as well as bodily engagement by using one-point perspec-tive embodiment and transform spectators into participants.
