Example Introduction 1Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry is a book about the Logans, a sharecropping family in the 1930’s Depression Era. Many families struggled during these times to make money. While people often had jobs such as shopkeeping and cleaning houses, most African-American families chose to sharecrop land. This meant that they rented the land from white owners. The land was important to the Logans in the text because it united their family together in an effort to live, they had to fight to keep their land from the white landowners, and it stood for a metaphor for hope despite difficult times.
