Think About the Following Event:Last night when I was getting ready to go to bed, one of my electrical fuses blew and I had no electricity in my house. It was still out this morning, so my alarm clock didn’t go off. I overslept, and I was late for school. This is actually a series of cause-and-effect connections….

Jennifer’s Party

Jennifer was getting ready for her yearly end-of-school party. She spent all night printing and stamping all of the invitations. Each person in her class was going to get one. Jennifer had to work very quickly to get the invitations ready before she left for school that morning. She was moving so fast that she didn’t notice that she forgot to put a stamp on Michelle’s invitation.

One the way to school, Jennifer dropped all of the invitations in the mailbox, including Michelle’s. Over the next few days, all of Jennifer’s classmates started talking about how excited they were about going to the party. By the end of the week, all of Jennifer’s classmates had gotten the invitations, all except for Michelle. Michelle didn’t say anything to Jennifer or anybody else, because she was embarrassed to be the only person left out.

On the day of the party, Jennifer happily watched all of her classmates having fun, but she couldn’t help but wonder where Michelle was. Later that afternoon, Jennifer opened her mailbox and saw Michelle’s invitation. It had been returned from the post office marked “No Postage.” Jennifer realized that she had made a terrible mistake.
