From the Principal Dear Parents,
I would like to take the chance to wish you a happy and relaxing school holiday break. I
hope you get a chance relax from the School Routines. When I have asked children what
they are most looking forward to, the majority of children have replied “spending time with
my family (mum, dad, grandparents, etc)”. I am looking forward to spending time with my
children by sharing meals, walking on our fabulous beaches (with my coat and gloves!)
and finishing a jigsaw puzzle that has been on our table for a few weeks now!
Mrs Di Johnson is taking a well desired long service break, returning 22nd August. She will be
replaced by Mrs Jess Feather (4 days) and Mrs Anne Marie Stein (1 day). Mrs Leversha will
be taking a few extra weeks long service leave at the beginning of term 3 (2 weeks) to
spend a “little extra” time with her family. We wish her an extra special holiday. Mrs
McNair will be taking 1/2A for this time. Mr Rankin will also be enjoying a short break (Long
Service Leave) returning the first Friday of Term.
Due to assembly being moved to tomorrow, the photos of our ‘Dolphin Award’ recipients
will be in first edition of term 4.
I would like to offer special congratulations to our Netball teams and their coaches
Simone, Wendy and Rach. The teams have been training hard and gaining feedback to
improve their skills each session. With a determined attitude and sportsmanship abounding
they put themselves forward to give it their best shot. They competed this week in the
division final. Our Girls team were victorious on the day and will now compete at the
Regional Event in Sale at the beginning of term 3. WELL DONE GIRLS!
I would like to praise all our children for their achievements and willingness to learn as part
of our amazing school team. It has been a great ‘long’ Term and we enjoyed excursions,
sports, guest speakers and state of the art classroom teaching. I have had the pleasure of
reading all the student reports and am pleased in the professional manner in which our
teachers have been able to capture a snapshot about every child in the school. As always
we have tried to make the reports as meaningful as possible to read. The comments
section links together what your child has achieved with their next learning steps. With
feedback that has been provided by parents last year. We have also continued with the
children self-reporting their learning in the specialist areas of learning. There is international
research that suggests that when children talk about their learning and set their next goals
that this raises their achievement. We hope that this format provides you with an interesting
insight into these areas.
Thank you to the many families who attended the Parent Teacher Discussions on Tuesday
night. It was wonderful to talk with many of you in relation to how your child is learning and
growing as a person. For anyone who was unable to make the discussion, I encourage you
to make a time to meet with your child’s teacher at the beginning of term 3. It is well
known that when the school and families work together we achieve more for each child. Next term we will be trialling flipping Lunchtime and Recess. This will mean that children
will have their “main meal” at 11am and their snack break at 2pm. This is a chance for
children to have their nutritious meal at the earlier time to help sustain their learning time.
The following link may support you to have ideas for healthy lunches.
http://raisingchildren.net.au/articles/packing_healthy_lunches.html We will seek feed-
back from parents, students and staff in term 3 to decide to extend or modify the trial.
The times will now be:
8:50 bell to entering quadrangles and classrooms
9:00 Start of lessons
11:00 Lunch (eating)
11:10 – 12:00 Outside play
12:00 – 2:00 Lessons
2:00 – 2:30 recess – Snack beak
2:30 – 3:30 lessons

IN SPORT Division Netball
Division Netball was played on Tuesday this week at Inverloch Recreation
Reserve. We had 2 teams entered in this level of competition – Girls and
Mixed.
Both teams worked exceptionally hard throughout this term to develop
the team work, skills and tactical awareness which enabled them to play
a fantastic style of netball. This could not have happened without the
help from coaches Wendy Allen, Simone Britt and Rach Fraser.
Congratulations to the Girls Team who defeated Leongatha PS 19 – 9.
They now qualify for the Regional Championships to be held in Sale on
Thursday July 21st.
A big well done to our Mixed Team who were gallant in defeat against Inverloch/Kongwak PS, going down
31 - 10. Last year, Inverloch beat our team 53 – 8, so we are getting closer to the reigning State Champions!
Regional Championships
Through consultation with our school leadership team and South Coast Primary School Sports Association,
our school will enter the following teams for Regional Finals:
Girls Netball
Girls Soccer
Girls and Boys T-Ball
Regional Finals will take place on Thursday 21st July in Sale.
Initially, after winning District Soccer, it was thought that the Girls Team would not be involved in Regional
Soccer due to some of the players involvement in the ongoing Netball Competition. However, we are now
100% permitted to compete at Regional Soccer.
Team selection for the above mentioned sports will be decided by school leadership. Permission notes and
transport details will go out in week 1 of Term 3. If you have any queries please see me.

Congratulations, to the students who had a go at solving the Maths Problem of the Week during Term 2.
We really enjoyed seeing the way you recorded your thinking, and the great problem solving strategies
you used.
Remember to keep practising your maths skills during the holidays by:
• Earning more live points on Mathletics.
• Using playing cards to practise multiplication facts, and to play addition and subtraction games.
• Reading maps if you are travelling.
