Oliver is of course a girl(Queenie Ingrams), Ron Moodywould have been delighted withthe homage paid by Jaycee Pandyas Fagin, Colin Salmon (ever thetrooper and happy to be teasedabout Strictly Come Dancing) is asomewhat effete fairy and localscallywag Ray Jones is as usualhimself appearing to think he is inanother panto completely; dressedas a ‘Clockwork Orange’ Droog.Piers Thomson reprises his
PC Gonemad persona. The rest ofthe cast and a good number of localkids had great fun!
The script is by new boy and co-producer Peter Jack and thedirection, not that the directionfeatures on any compass I’ve seen,is in the hands of Roger Pomphrey. The house band is remarkably tight(considering the preparation theyhave had) led by the remorselesslylaid back Ned Scott.
To sum it up, it was a triumphand like a Triumph it leaked all over the stage. It leaked joy! l

An hilarious event on somany levels. Impossibleto review seriously; it defies gravity.
The Portobello Panto wouldseem to the outsider to be a chaoticChristmas family gathering, riddledwith in-jokes and avoiding all thestrictures of conventional theatre.A great deal of the humour stemsfrom the fact that it somewhatunder prepared (an essential part ofit all) and the script seems to offerthe cast a guide rather thansomething to stick to.
Naturally local issues areaddressed: Jamie Oliver and All Saints are toyed with. Currentaffairs are addressed in the guiseof Nancy, who bears a strikingresemblance to a red haired ex-newspaper editor marshalling
