These are raw materials necessary as basic inputs into any factory system.

If the raw materials needed by a factory are big, heavy and bulky it needs to be close to this raw material otherwise it would be too expensive to transport.

A market is the people/companies that will buy the product.

Important for a factory to be near its markets or connected via good transport routeways.

The closer you are the cheaper the transport costs.

Why are these clothing factories located on the

periphery of Dublin

Reliable transport (roads, rail, ports & airports) is necessary for moving resources & goods to the market place as quick as possible to reduce cost.

Transport routes could be road, rail and port for heavy goods and airport for lighter products

Labour refers to the people needed to work in the factory.

These workers are usually highly skilled & educated work force.

Factories must be built close enough to towns and cities to get enough workers.

Factories need services such as electricity, running water, sewage treatment, waste disposal, telephone, broadband and wifi.

Companies need good quality services so set up where these are readily available.

This is money needed to set up & run a factory, generally provided by banks or Government Grants.

Government do many things to encourage companies to set up industries.

They offer incentives grants and low corportation tax.

Some people set up a factory in an area where they come from.

Local people are happy when companies set up in their area as it provides jobs. Other people may not like it as factories can be noisy, dirty with a lot of heavy trucks on the road
