PHYSICAL HEALTH

Physical Health: The condition of a person’s body.Includes: Eating health meals, and getting enough sleep and exercise.

 

Target: I will be able to explain the key components of physical health.

5 Components of Physical Health: 1. Exercise: the act of using your muscles to stay physically fit.

Why Exercise?- More energy, maintain weight, increase confidence & self-esteem, and battle chronic diseases.Recommendation: 1 hour of physical activity on most, preferably all, days of the week.

2. Nutrition: the process of providing or obtaining the food necessary for health and growth.

Balanced meals are essential in leading a healthy life.Recommendation: Boys = 2,800 calories/day and Girls = 2,200/day.

3. Sleep Hygiene: habits and practices that are conducive to sleeping well on a regular basis.

It is recommended that teens get 8-10 hours of sleep per night. The body likes regularity, so try to go to bed and wake up at the same time daily.Avoid caffeine, cell phones, and TV before bed/in bed.

4. Alcohol and Drugs: Alcohol and other drugs interfere with messages to the brain and alters perception.

Using them puts you at risk for accidental injuries, car crashes, and trouble with the law, unwanted pregnancies, and fights.

5. Weight Management: Maintaining a healthy weight decreases your risk of certain diseases such as heart disease and diabetes.

Exercise and proper nutrition helps to maintain healthy weight levels.
