HOLIDAY GREETINGS FROM ADMINISTRATION
In the spirit of this most joyous season, we want to express our warmest
wishes to you and your family for a happy holiday season.
During this tumultuous political year, we now come together as a
community, residents and staff, to appreciate each other and support each
other.
We are grateful for the opportunity to work with you and for you, to learn
from you and to serve you. We wish you abundance, happiness, and peace.
Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, and Happy New Year!
Linda L. Lateana Jamie Blake
Executive Director Executive Assistant
A CHRISTMAS CAROL
There’s a reason why Charles Dickens’
holiday classic A Christmas Carol is
called “immortal”! It’s one of the most
cautionary yet heartfelt stories ever
written, and it’s as much a part of the
season as eggnog and mistletoe. So
mark your calendars for a special event,
because on Wednesday, December 21, at 7:30 p.m. in the Auditorium, the
Goodwin House Players along with several staff members will present a semi-
staged production of the beloved story directed by Eddie Page and produced
by Howard Smith.
Scrooge, Tiny Tim, and the world of nineteenth-century London will soon be
coming to Goodwin House!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY
The Community Service Committee is recruiting volunteers to assist Arlington Community High School
students obtain their high school diplomas. Tutors are needed in English, history, math, science, and other
subjects; also to help students prepare for the required Standards of Learning tests. Tutors can also serve as
a “caring adult" or mentor. The fully accredited Arlington Community High School serves a largely
immigrant population that enters the Arlington Public Schools too old to be placed in one of the
neighborhood high schools. In addition, many students attend the school part-time because of family and
other responsibilities. Because of the students' history of interrupted education, most are in their twenties
and many have multiple family responsibilities.
If you wish to explore the possibility of becoming a volunteer tutor for one or more students, call Todd
Endo Ext. 7692 or Bill Bozman Ext. 7456. Or email Todd (toddendo@gmail.com) .

by staying as warm as possible!
FROM CHAPLAINCY
Chaplain Theresa always is available to one and all members of the GHBC community whether by “drop
by” or advance arrangement. However, it is easy to allow the growing darkness and the expectations of the
season to cause one to feel not oneself. Thus, Chaplain Theresa has set aside time each day to be available
for listening, prayers, conversation, etc., in the Chapel and Formal Parlor from 6:45 to 7:45 a.m. and then
again from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Both the Chapel and Formal Parlor have been set aside for those hours to
assure an opportunity for peace and quiet, so you can use the space to meet your spiritual needs.

TUESDAY DOCUMENTARY- THE HISTORY OF CHRISTMAS
Christmas abounds with traditions, from neighborhood carolers
to lovingly decorated trees, but from where did all these rituals
emerge? This enlightening program looks at the origins of the
Western world's most popular Christmas traditions -- from the
significance of December 25 and its relationship to winter
solstice to the enchanting legend of Santa Claus and Prince
Albert's 1841 unveiling of the Christmas tree.
Tuesday, December 20, at 2:00 p.m. in the Media Room. NR
60 Minutes, 2005.
WEDNESDAY GREAT COURSES- LOST WORLDS OF SOUTH AMERICA
The dramatic terrain of South America is one of the great and
thrilling frontiers of archaeology. Buried by the centuries on
soaring mountain slopes and beneath arid deserts and lush
jungles, the remains of extraordinary, majestic civilizations—
many completely unknown until recent decades—are now
coming to light and raising tantalizing questions about what else
may be awaiting discovery. 12 weeks, two episodes per week.
Wednesday, December 21, at 3:00 p.m. in the Media Room.
SATURDAY EVENING MOVIE- CHRISTMAS EVE
On Christmas Eve, a power outage traps six groups of eccentric
New Yorkers in six different elevators. In one compartment, a
fired employee confronts the HR manager who just let him go. In
another, a claustrophobic tuba player starts to fall apart.
Saturday, December 24, at 7:15 p.m. in the Auditorium. PG,
95 minutes, 2015.

COMMUNITY CORNER
I want everyone to be aware of a small group of folks who have a very large job. Their leader
is Geraldine Henderson, Special Projects Coordinator (an employee of Goodwin House Inc.
for 47 years) and her staff. Geraldine’s responsibilities include supervising daily room set
ups/tear downs and resident “pull outs”. Her staff consists of Robert Grant and Gary
Robinson, two very fine young men who go with us on shopping tours to help us with our bags full of
purchases to be delivered to our apartments. During this holiday season, numerous programs are offered for
our entertainment. The demand for space requires frequent changes o f seating arrangements. Robert and
Gary are in constant motion moving chairs from one location to another.
Their help is often needed to assist residents and the WhatNot Shop with taking items to and from storage.
Also deserving of recognition on this staff are the seldom seen Night Crew consisting of Joann Walter, Team
Leader, Joe Kamara and Vernon Wiley. They, too, are involved with “setup/tear downs”, but the biggest
part of their job is to work while we enjoy evening activities and/or sleep. During the night, Joann, Joe and
Vernon are cleaning the common areas on the first, second, and third floors. Other areas include: the fitness
center, game rooms, meeting rooms, and rest rooms. Carpets are cleaned as well. Working behind the scenes
seldom brings warm smiles and “thank you”, but is truly worthy of recognition. Tis’ the season to be grateful
and we are!
