Welcome to the new world of AVONITE SURFACES.
Since 1983, we’ve been a pioneer in solid surfacing, known
for our unbridled passion and spirited innovations.
Our surfaces have long been international favorites with
leading designers of hotels, resorts, specialty restaurants,
and unique corporate environments. Today, we’re equally
well known for distinctly personal residential projects.
If you’re looking to break away from the pack with unique
surfaces that challenge the status quo, we’re the ideal
partner to fuel your imagination with unlimited possibilities
of personal creativity and self expression.
The STUDIO COLLECTION™ is dedicated to
those who dare to put forth an original idea
and take it beyond ordinary.
Our portfolio celebrates visionary colors, realistic
textures, recycled products and rich groupings inspired by
glass, concrete, precious metals, and an eclectic array of
natural materials.
From drama and dynamic focal points to old world
artistry and classic elegance, this offering is your source for
eye-catching kitchens, uniquely personal master havens,
showcase powder rooms, and specialty environments
throughout your home.
You’ll discover the freedom and confidence to create
signature solutions that simply can’t compare to ordinary
surfacing products.
For more than twenty years, we’ve been defining what
solid surface can be. Our inventive products constantly
establish new benchmarks for technical artistry, while
maintaining the durability, easy care, and unlimited design
flexibility of a solid surface material.
The Glass Series, with its seductive
beauty and mesmerizing translucency, is
ideal for a variety of spectacular back
lighting techniques.
Our Recycled patterns, first introduced in
1997, are part of a corporate commitment
to strive for manufacturing facilities with
zero waste material discharge. Surfaces in
this program are produced with reclaimed materials that
previously would have been shipped to a landfill. Using
products which are good for the environment never
looked so fabulous!
Other textures from Crystelles include high fashion
colors with a natural, coarse appearance, that remains
solid surface smooth. The tempting palette of colors
includes Saffron, Pistachio, Iris, and Cement.
Our Metallics unearth the brilliant
elegance of precious metals, with a
vivid sparkle and shimmer. Exquisite
reflections create a lively, interactive
experience from every angle.
The ultimate potential for your STUDIO COLLECTION™
experience will be greatly enhanced by your local certified
fabricator. Their passionate commitment to craftsmanship
and creativity will bring your ideas to life in ways you may
never have imagined.
For more than twenty years, we’ve developed relationships
with progressive fabricators around the world. Visit our

to the natural earthtones of FOUNDATIONS™
no other surfacing solutions offer you more choices
to celebrate your own sense of personal style.
800-4-AVONITE
www.avonitesurfaces.com
Our FOUNDATIONS™ advanced acrylic surfaces celebrate
nature’s own earth tones and vivid accents. With comfortable,
familiar colors and down-to-earth textures, you’ll feel
like you’re slipping into your favorite pair of jeans for a
relaxing time at home with family and friends.
If you’ve been browsing and brainstorming about
a special project, we’re the ideal partner to help
turn your doodles and dreams into reality, while
bringing out the best in you and your home.
From setting off beautiful new cabinets, or harmonizing
with an existing vanity, to accenting a powder room, or
jazzing up a tired breakfast area, our surfaces will inspire
your confidence in expressing your own creativity.
When it comes to your most frequently used areas, our
integrated kitchen and vanity sinks create hard-working,
seamless solutions that are as easy to maintain as they are
good looking.
FOUNDATIONS™ surfaces are solid color or pattern
throughout their entire thickness, creating long lasting
beauty and strength.
STAIN RESISTANT
Our 100% non-porous surfaces are highly resistant to daily
household stains, including coffee, grape juice, beet juice,
mustard, and food dye.
EASY-TO-CLEAN
With our smooth, easy-to-clean surfaces there’s no grout
to keep clean and no place for bacteria to grow or dirt
to accumulate.
SEAMLESS
Unlike stone and quartz materials, our seamless installations
achieve a one-piece look for your entire surface area. Sinks
can also be seamed to the counter eliminating overhangs,
crevices, and caulking.
UNLIMITED DESIGNS
Best of all, our surfaces offer unlimited design
possibilities, including custom inlays, routed drain boards,
unique edge treatments, contrasting borders accents,
and coved backsplashes. FOUNDATIONS surfaces can be
thermoformed to create sensuous bends and curves.
FOUNDATIONS™ surfaces are backed by ten-year written
warranty when properly installed by a certified fabricator.
As a global leader in advanced acrylic surfaces, our
efficient, state-of-the-art U.S. manufacturing facilities
assure you of consistent quality and availability at
favorable prices.

POLYESTER CUSTOM COLOR PROCESS
This polyester custom color process should be followed for all orders that cannot be filled with our existing polyester colors. Our Research and Development Department can create custom colors as well as matches to many colors offered by other manufacturers. All customers considering this process need to be aware of the additional time required to develop a product.
1. The custom color process involves two distinct types of requests:a. Color Matches. Colors that can use existing particulate, pigment and process.
The minimum order for Color Matches is 100 sheets.b. New Color Development. These are colors which require the development
of new particulate, color, pigments and/or production modification. The minimum order for New Color Development is different for each order and is determined by the lab.
2. The standard size offered for all custom colors is 36”x1/2”x120”.
3. A 4”x4” or larger sample (chip, swatch, etc.) must be provided to Avonite, Inc. 4. A complete custom color request form must be submitted with the sample (see
attached).
5. Our Research and Development Department will create the custom color samples within 2-4 weeks (this time frame will depend on the difficulty of the request. For example, color matching is less difficult than matching particulate size and distribution.) After review of the submitted sample, R & D will give an estimated date of availability of our match. The new custom color samples will then be sent to the customer for approval. The general sample size provided will be a 12”x12” sample unless otherwise requested by the customer. Additional time may be required by our lab if further color modification is needed. The requester will be notified if this is the case.
6. After the custom color has been approved, Avonite, Inc. will provide pricing and production lead-time to the customer.
7. After the custom color has been approved and the actual purchase order has been submitted, our Production Department will schedule production of the custom color. The lead-time from order date to pouring will be 8-10 weeks depending upon the formulation of the product.
8. All custom color sheets will be shipped at one time unless otherwise approved by Avonite, Inc. prior to the order.
9. A retained sample of this color will be kept on file by our Quality Assurance Dept. for 2 years. The formulation for this color will be kept indefinitely.

ACRYLIC CUSTOM SIZE PROCESS
The custom size process should be followed for all orders requiring special dimensions of our Formstone™ acrylic products. Both time and money can be saved in material and fabrication costs by being able to purchase the exact size sheet needed to complete a job. 1. Acrylics can be ordered in custom sizes accommodating widths from 15” to 75”.
The minimum length is 20”. Solid color acrylics can be poured in any variation of the above mentioned dimensions because they do not need to be sanded. All of our solid color acrylics are now provided in a cast matte finish. For all granite acrylics, the custom size width needs to be at or below 36” so that it can be sanded. Avonite can provide granites over 36” wide without sanding or dry sanded for an extra charge. Avonite will review requests for larger than 36” widths to be sanded and discuss options with you.
2. Avonite Inc. will calculate the number of sheets that need to be ordered for the custom size being quoted.
3. After the purchase order is placed, Avonite, Inc. will provide pouring and shipping information. Additional lead-times of 6-8 weeks apply in most cases for custom size orders.
4. Avonite, Inc. will ship all custom size acrylic in its entirety unless otherwise approved by Avonite Management prior to the order.
This process includes the currently existing ranges of colors available in Acrylic from Avonite, Inc.

PRODUCT
DESCRIPTION
COMPOSITION & MATERIALS: AVONITE is
a patented, non-porous
homogenous blend
of either polyester or
acrylic alloys and fillers.
This creates a surfacing
material that looks like
stone but cuts like wood.
The grain pattern goes
all the way through
which allows for three
dimensional shaping.
BASIC USES: Because
the material can
be worked with
conventional wood-
working power tools, the
design possibilities are
unlimited. Countertops,
wall cladding, furniture,
mouldings, architectural
signage and accessories
can be beautifully
created with a guarantee
of durability.
LIMITATIONS: Many AVONITE
products are suitable for exterior
use. Contact Technical Services
regarding limitations and approvals
for exterior applications. Do not
use in areas exposed to sustained
temperatures in excess of 375°F
(CI) or 260°F (CIII). Seaming
with joint adhesive should not
be performed when the ambient
temperature of the work area is
below 55°F (13°C).
SIZES: Standard polyester
AVONITE sheets are available in
36” (915mm) and 30” (762mm)
widths by 120” (3048mm) lengths.
Formstone™ Acrylics are available
in 36” (915mm), and 30” (762mm)
widths by 96” (2438mm), 120”
(3048mm) and 144” (3658mm)
lengths. Custom sizes are available
on special order.
THICKNESS: All AVONITE
sheets are available in standard
thickness of 1/2” (12mm). Class
I granites are also available in
3/4” (19mm) by special order.
Formstone™ Acrylics are available
in 1/2” (12mm) and 1/4” (6mm)
thicknesses.
SHAPED PRODUCTS: Solid surface sinks in kitchen
and lavatory models are available
in three standard solid colors.
Combine with AVONITE sheets
to create a totally integrated solid
surface system. (See brochure
#4081 Sinks, for technical data.)
COLORS: A complete selection
of granite, gemstone, crystelles,
glass and architectural solids
are available. Contact your local
Distributor for samples. Custom
colors can be matched to order for
larger projects.
FINISH: The factory finish
of AVONITE is a matte finish
approximating 220 grit sandpaper.
A satin sheen or a high polish
can be obtained by buffing with
prescribed polishing compounds.
WEIGHT: AVONITE sheet stock
in 1/2” (12mm) thickness weighs
approximately 4.0 lbs. per sq.
ft. in the Class I rated materials
(CI). Class III sheets weigh
approximately 3.1 lbs. in 1/2”
(12mm) thickness (CIII).
MAINTENANCE
AVONITE surfaces may
be easily cleaned using
conventional cleaning
agents such as an
ammonia based liquid
cleaner (glass cleaner).
Dry stains on a matte
finish can be removed
with a Scotch-Brite®
scouring pad by 3M or
a mild abrasive cleanser.
Burns or scorches can be
removed by sanding with
coarse grit sandpaper
followed by finer grit
sandpaper. Follow
sanding with a Scotch-
Brite® 7447 red pad by
3M (or equivalent) to
match finish of sanded
area to surrounding
area. A final buffing is

RECOMMENDED SUBSTRATES
The illustrations shown below demonstrate typical substrate requirements needed
to properly support AVONITE® materials. As a general rule, solid substrates should
be used only for furniture or vanity tops, or overhangs where heat sources are not
present.
R E C O M M E N D E D S U B S T R A T E S
RUNNER METHOD
The runner method uses 1”x4” supports
that run parallel to the length of the
cabinets. These supports are placed in
the front, center and rear and require
cross supports every 18”-24” (45-60cm).
These supports should be mechanically
secured to cabinets.
Frameless cabinets require the thickness
of the top edge to clear doors and
drawer fronts.
COOKTOP OVERHANGS
For overhangs exceeding 6” (72mm)
and where heat sources are present,
use steel tubing. For example: a kitchen
island with a cooktop and overhang.
Steel frame should be mechanically
secured to the cabinetry which will
provide a cantilevered support.Drawings available for download

1. Cabinet must be even and level with no protrusions to cause cracking.
2. Support tops every 18” (45.7cm). Cantilevers over 6” (15.2cm) require structural support. Provide support within 3” (7.6cm) of all cut outs.
3. Hot and cold units must be supported from below and not rest on the Avonite top.
4. Attach Avonite to support frame with dabs of silicone every 18”-24” (45.7-61cm) ; do not use a continuous bead.
5. Separate tops containing hot sections from those with cold sections. A soft (silicone) seam may be used.
6. Make cut outs with router and template and allow a 1/2” (1.2cm) radius in the corners. Cut and sand a 1/8” (.3cm) round over on top and bottom edge of cut out.
7. Reinforce corners of rectangular cut outs with 6” x 6” (15.2x15.2cm) blocks of Avonite. Circular cut outs must have
a continuous ring of Avonite 2” (5cm) wide as reinforcement.
8. Use a layer of Thermo-Flow tape to line the perimeter of all hot and cold cut outs.
9. Hot well units must be covered with a layer of Flex-Sulation blended PVC foam sheeting. The foam may be attached to the hot well with 3M® double sided aircraft tape, or duct tape.

TOILET PARTIT IONS
When using Avonite for toilet partitions, please keep in mind the following:
T O I L E T P A R T I T I O N S
1. 1/2” (12mm) Avonite Formstone™ Acrylic or Avonite Polyester Class I should be
the minimum thickness used.
2. All hardware must have rubber grommets between the hardware and the Avonite
material.
3. Bathroom partition hardware can be obtained from:
BOMMER INDUSTRIES 803.457.3301
DECOLAM 418.527.2544
JACKNOB 888.231.9333
4. 1” thick pilasters are recommended for the post going from the ground to
the ceiling, obtained by utilizing the 1/2” (12mm) thick Avonite pieces.
5. Full channel grooves can be used when constructing the horizontal seams for
vertical panels in the partitions.
6. Both the partition and door should use a 1”x 4” (25mmx102mm) wide build-up
with a 1/2” (12mm) channel groove to receive the 1/2” (12mm) center panel.
• This build-up gives the panel and doors extra strength.
• There should be no seams on the stall door.
7. Wall panels should be secured to back of the wall and to pilaster with full length
“U” channel.

FINISHES
Avonite sheets are delivered to fabricators with a factory finish. The final finish
desired must be specified to the installer/fabricator as Matte, Satin, or Gloss.
Each of these finishes requires different steps and techniques to achieve and
maintain. Fabricators may have additional charges for Gloss specifications.
GUIDELINES FOR F INISHES
MATTE
This is a sanded finish and is easily maintained. There is no sheen to a
matte finish.
SATIN
This finish is achieved by sanding with finer grits of sandpaper and gray
Scotch Brite™ and is easily maintained. A satin finish has a low to medium
luster.
GLOSS
This finish is achieved by polishing the surface after sanding. Gloss finishes
have a high sheen and reveal the full depth of the color. Using dark colors
with a gloss finish should be avoided in high traffic areas.

DESIGNING AND FABRICATING WITH AVONITE GLASS
The unique translucent quality of Avonite Glass products allows you to exercise a great deal of creativity. For this reason, it is expected that there will be many new applications that will produce unanticipated effects (see www.avonite.com/glasstips). By all means experiment, be creative, and consult with us as you have questions. However, always make sure that the end result will meet your expectations and those of your client by doing a test piece to demonstrate the effect you are trying to achieve. Should you develop special techniques for dealing with new applications, please give our Technical Services Group a call at 1.800.866.TECH (8324).
For good results, we recommend the following guidelines:
1. THE NATURE OF THE AVONITE GLASS SERIES
Keep in mind that dabs of silicone, supports, and under-mount sink flanges will show through these products like any typical glass. When the products are laminated together for a thicker appearance, such as a drop edge or seam block, they will appear darker due to reduced light transmission. These special effects can be worked into the design for a unique aesthetic effect or application. Thermoforming of Avonite Glass products is not recommended.
When Glass products are chosen for more typical applications, where less transparency is desired, the backsides of the finished top can be painted to hide any supports and produce a fairly uniform appearance for the entire surface. The color you choose will affect the final appearance. The colors listed below were chosen to match the hue of the built-up edge, which is slightly darker. The use of these paints will darken the appearance of the entire surface to match the thicker edge. This effect may concern some customers. These customers may prefer to accept the darker appearance on the edge only. In this case a lighter color of paint may be used to hide silicone and supports. Frosted glass offers unique opportunities for painting the back different colors to achieve custom hues that transmit through the sheet.
Use these colors or equivalents for matching the darker hue of the thicker edge. Painting should be done after fabrication to avoid painting any surface where AvoBond will be applied (field seams, build up, etc):
Antique Glass (K3-8455) Sherwin Williams # 1460 Garden Room Benjamin Moore & Co. #621 Green / Product #275
Cobalt Glass (K3-8485) No paint needed.Frosted Glass (K3-8480) Sherwin Williams # 2127 Summit Gray
Benjamin Moore & Co. #1483 Gray / Product #215Sky Glass (K3-8465) Sherwin Williams # 1503 Dutch Pottery
Benjamin Moore & Co. #770 Blue / Product #215
2. SEAM BLOCKS
Due to the translucency of Frosted Glass, Antique Glass, and Sky Glass, all seam blocks need to be made of 1/2” (12mm) thick clear acrylic sheet using the following procedure:
The 4” (96mm) wide and 1/2” (12mm) thick clear acrylic seam block needs to be glued with full coverage of AvoBond Adhesive, LEAVING NO VOIDS. Voids will appear as darker areas. Remove glue squeezed out from under the seam block. The excess glue will show as a dark line. After the seam block has completely dried, paint the backside and edges to hide supports and silicone if transparency is not the desired effect.
3. BACKLIT APPLICATIONS
For backlit applications, you must follow the free span support guidelines established for Class III products (see section 3.1 of the June 2001 Fabrication Guide or page 27 in Sept 98 Fabrication Guide). You may use clear 1/2” (12mm) acrylic to support larger spans. Using the 1/2” (12mm) clear acrylic sheet as a solid substrate is recommended. The clear acrylic will not appear when lit. Frosted or white acrylic may be used to diffuse the light source. When adhering the Avonite glass product to the acrylic, we recommend 100% silicone containing a matching translucent tint, such as Axiom Sealants ( Buffalo, NY 14215, phone: 716.894.1561 or email at thiemke-ent@juno.com), or equivalent. Always test a small piece to judge appearance.
Backlit Applications that require deck seams or have unsupported spans will require special consideration. Please call Avonite Technical Services (800.866.TECH [8324]) as you have questions.

COLOR INLAY
PRODUCTS NEEDED FOR INLAY: Inlay Resin (same as Patching Resin) Polyester Pigment Catalyst Stirring Stick Wax Paper Cup
Rout out a slot for color inlay. It should be 1/8” (3mm) minimum depth. Contain over-pour by placing masking tape or 100% silicone around slot. Add color pigment to inlay resin: one drop per ounce. Add catalyst and stir thoroughly.
Pour mixture into prepared slot.
Over-pour by 1/8” (3mm) to eliminate low spots.
Allow to dry thoroughly and finish. The hardening time is approximately 8 hours.
METAL INLAYS
Glue the metal to the bottom of the groove with Super Glue. It may then be over-poured with clear resin. Over-pour should be a minimum of 3/32” (2mm) deep.
GENUINE ABALONE, MOTHER OF PEARL, OR METAL INLAYS
Glue the metal to the bottom of the groove with super glue or adhesive strip for Abalone and Mother of Pearl. Allow for a minimum of 3/32” (2mm) of space below the finished surface for the overpouring of clear resin. Shell laminate with 1/8”(3mm) polymer backing is available in 48” (1219mm), lengths by 1/4” (6mm), 1/2” (12 mm) and 1” (25mm) widths.

VERTICAL SURFACE INSTALLATION
Wall cladding requires dabs of silicone every 8”-10” (20-25cm) across and
down. Be sure the backs of the sheets are clean and dust free.
When vertical hard seams are requested such as a back wall or tub
surround, it is recommended to bond the panels together horizontally and
f loat them up into place.
An alternative to bonding vertical seams might be to have beveled edges
with silicone seams like real stone. For best results, use the Wavy Bit System
to keep the panels aligned.
Vertical installations over 10’ (304.5cm) in height may need mechanical
fasteners.
Back splashes require dabs of silicone every 8”-10” (20-25cm). The use of
hot melt glue can help hold the splash in place until the silicone has set.

COMMERCIAL HOT WELL FOOD SERVICE COUNTERTOP INSTALLATION
Commercial Hot Well Food service countertops will require different procedures
for installation because they are exposed to much greater temperatures and stress
than residential countertops.
The following features must be included in a commercial hot well food service
installation in order to be covered by Avonite’s 10-Year Material Warranty. Color
must be selected from among Avonite’s Class I fire rated products.
1. Cabinet must be even and level with no protrusions to cause cracking.
2. Support tops every 18” (457mm). Cantilevers over 6” (152mm) require
structural support. Provide support within 3 inches (76mm) of all cut outs.
3. Hot and cold units must be supported from below and not rest on the Avonite
top.
4. Attach Avonite to support frame with dabs of silicone every 18” to 24”
(457mm-610mm), do not use a continuous bead.
5. Separate tops containing hot sections from those with cold sections. A soft
(silicone) seam may be used.
6. Make cut outs with router and template and allow a 1/2” (13mm) radius in
the corners. Cut and sand a 1/8” (3mm) round over on top and bottom edge
of cut out.
7. Reinforce corners of rectangular cut outs with 6” x6” (152mm x 152mm)
blocks of Avonite. Circular cut outs must have a continuous ring of Avonite 2”
(52mm) wide as reinforcement.
8. A layer of Thermo-Flow tape is used to line the perimeter of all hot and cold
cut outs.
9. Commercial Hot Well Food Service Units must be covered with a layer of Flex-
Sulation blended PVC foam sheeting. The foam may be attached to the hot
well with 3M double sided aircraft tape, or duct tape.
10. Cabinets are to be ventilated by installing a fan near the bottom to pull cool
air into the cabinet and providing vent slots near the upper edge of the
cabinet to expel the hot air. Temperatures in the cabinet must not exceed
170°F (76°C).
11. Sneeze guards must be fastened to the cabinets or the f loor, not directly to
the Avonite. Holes in the Avonite to accommodate the sneeze guard supports
must be cut 1/4” (6mm) oversize in diameter to allow expansion and
contraction.
12. Deck seams must be reinforced with a 3”-4” (76mm-102mm) seam block. Keep
seams 3” (76mm) or more away from cut outs.
