Meet your teacher… Becky Goetzinger

•grew up in Louisville•degrees in education from University of Kentucky, University of Louisville, and Bellarmine University•Currently working on my dissertation for PhD•22nd year teaching: elementary, middle, & high school•10th year in Oldham County and 2nd year at BES•hobbies: travel, reading, & trying new restaurants

and your assistant…Vickie Pike previously lived in Atlanta 2nd year as an assistant married to Tom Pike has 1 son in graduate school at the

University of Alabama

What can I expect?Your child will be…challenged to think.nurtured to read & write.encouraged to speak.valued and respected.loved.

The First Day Classroom opens at 7:20am Students must be in the classroom by

7:40am!! Parents may walk students to the

classroom on the first 3 days. Do not linger. Parent Breakfast in the cafeteria from

7:30 to 8:30am – an opportunity for you to meet other parents.

Please remember that children must wear tennis shoes/sneakers on PE days!!

Snack

Daily around 9:10am Send a small, healthy snack each day:

fruit, goldfish crackers, raw vegetables, string cheese, etc.

Our classroom is a NUT-FREE zone!! Water bottles: small, reusable bottle –

NO ICE!

Breakfast & Lunch Breakfast $1.10

Lunch $2.10

Adult $3.25

Lunch is self-serve BUT we monitor and help as children fix their plates.

ALL students have a debit account for food purchases: Lunch website

Families are welcome to join their child for lunch.

Family Engagement When families are engaged in their

children’s education, children are more successful in school!

Parent & Child Together When you come to school, you can

better understand . . . our schedule. your child’s emotional and social

development. the curriculum. your child’s academic progress. teaching methods.

You are encouraged to visit and volunteer!

You must complete a background check.

Celebrations Food for celebrations will be provided and

must be commercially prepared. Two parties: fall & winter, which parents

may attend (if they have a background check)

Valentine card exchange for students ONLY Students are encouraged to celebrate their

birthdays at school by purchasing a gift for our class.

All students will be celebrated as Star Students; check our website and send Ms. Goetzinger an email to sign up.

Transportation How will your child get home on the first day

of school? How will your child normally go home? Do you know your bus number? Please complete the transportation form and

leave it with Ms. Goetzinger TODAY!

REMEMBER: Transportation changes must be sent in writing. Please try to keep transportation arrangements as consistent as possible.

How will we judge the success of this school year? Is your child happy to come to school most days? Did your child make new friends? Does your child speak more about new ideas &

discoveries? Does your child understand how letters and

words work? Can your child read poems and books? Can your child write stories, letters, & facts. Does your child understand how numbers work? Is your child more curious about the world? Did your child learn to control his/her own

behavior?
