Graduation Requirements
Class of 2024
In Washington State, students must earn 24 credits to graduate
Each semester class passed = 0.5 credit Earn a “D” grade or better to pass Semester grades are the ones that count
Credit Requirements 6 classes per semester 3.0 credits per semester 2 semesters each year 6.0 credits per year 4 years = 24 credits total Earn specific numbers of credits in specific subject areas

Social Studies – 3.0 credits
Science – 3.0 credits (two must be lab-based)
Math – 3.0 credits (including Algebra 3-4 or equivalent)
PE/Health – 1.5/0.5 credits

Competency Based Credits
PE Credit for High School Athletics
Students may be able to earn up to 1.0 credit for
community or high school athletics (0.5 per
season) if the student has taken and passed a 0.5
credit PE class prior to requesting credits
Participation must be one full season of a
district approved sport
CJH classes that meet the PE requirement
include PE 9, Yoga, and ROTC
UPSD Board Policy 2410 (and associated forms) are
available at www.upsd83.org by selecting District Operating
Policies under About UPSD.20
Competency Based CreditsWorld Language Proficiency Credit Students who can fluently read, write, speak and
listen in a language other than English may earn high
school credit in a world language by successfully
passing district-approved assessments.
Testing will take place once a year.

Please contact your student’s counselor if you have
any questions about this option.

Honors Courses
Courses: English and Contemporary World Studies
Application: All interested students must submit an
Honors Application with registration forms.
Testing: No special testing required
Admission: Prior class grades, SBA, GRADE and
GMADE scores
Notification by June 1st
Please note that space is limited in Honors courses
New students will take required tests as part of enrollment process
(GRADE and GMADE)

Biology – Honors Designation
All 9th grade students enrolled in Biology next year
will have the opportunity to request a designation for
Honors Biology to appear on their official school
records.
Requirements for the Honors designation will include
additional and/or alternate assessment items, projects,
and assignments.
Specific details of the Honors option will be
communicated to students and parents no later than
September 30th of each school year.
Although students do not need to apply for Honors
Biology, they will need to inform their teacher of their
intent to complete the Honors option within one
week of receiving the information.23
