Year 3 pupils: During your time in Orion class, we expect you to: always try your best; be kind and considerate to everyone; do your homework - hand it in every
Monday and it will be given out again on Thursday;
read regularly to an adult at home and complete activities in your reading journal;
look after your own things; make sure you wear the correct uniform
with the appropriate footwear (ensuring that all items are labelled with your name);
bring your PE kit for PE on Monday and Friday

You can support your child by: Listening to them read, or asking them
about the books they are reading and encouraging them to read every day.
Encouraging your child’s growing independence – letting them sort out for themselves the items they will need for school such as lunchboxes, coats and shoes etc.
Practising maths skills in a friendly and informal way - number games, mental arithmetic and times table facts.
Encouraging and supporting them to do their homework by themselves. Remember it’s their homework not yours.

Theme: Invaders and Traders
Humanities In humanities, children will be learning about who
were the first people of Britain. They will order
events of the past, learn about the different ways in
which hunter gatherers communicated. They will
observe how people lived in the Stone Age and see
the transitions to the Bronze and Iron age.
Maths In Maths, children will be learning about
multiplications and division by multiplying and dividing
2 digit numbers by 1 digit numbers. They will learn
about money, length and perimeter to enhance their
measuring abilities. They will also be learning about
number fractions and statistics this spring term.
English In English , children will be reading the book ‘The First
Drawing’. They will be explore the Stone Age and cave
paintings as well as write diary entries, explore the
conventions of speech, create character descriptions
and finish by writing their own historical narratives.
For the book ‘Stone Age Boy’, children will learn
about the different types of narrative stories. They
will Infer and explain characters' feelings, thoughts
and motives from actions and what they say, with the
onus on identifying key events for their narrative.

Science This term the children will be learning about
forces and magnets. They will observe how
magnets attract or repel each other and attract
some materials and not others. They will compare
and group together a variety of everyday
materials on the basis of whether they are
attracted to a magnet, and identify some
magnetic materials.
Computing This term the children will be working with Junior
Jam who will introduce them to basic design skills
using the app ‘iDesign’. The class will also work on
iMedia, specifically using ‘iAnimate’ to create
animations.
Music: Records, using a keyboard and song writing
Religious Education: What do different people believe about God?
French: Date and objects in the school.
Art: Cave Paintings & Graffiti
Physical Education: Gymnastics, cricket and rounders
Personal Social Health Education: Dreams Goals/Healthy Me
