Benefits of Goals•
What you get by reaching your goals is not nearly as important as whatyou become by reaching them. The attitudes, knowledge, skills, andhabits developed by goal achievers are of infinite value in thetomorrows of your life. J.C. Penny said it well when he said, “Give me astock clerk with a goal and I will give you a person who will makehistory. Give me a person without a goal, and I will give you a stock

A Blueprint for Failure
1) No specific goals and purposes.2) No future plans.
3) Satisfied with things as they are.
4) Lack of ambition.
5) Easily discouraged.
6) Dominant character traits; taker and not a giver.7) Lacks enthusiasm and zest for living and working.
8) Dominant personality traits
9) Motivation
10) No real knowledge of self or others, such as needs or abilities
11) Absenteeism and chronic lateness both on and off the job
Often goals are not met because there are no underlying plans to achievethese goals-we want to teach you how to write a job related goal thatyou can reach

•Short Term Goals- are specific and veryreasonable, and can be achieved in brief period of time short term goals can andshould feed into the process of workingtoward long-term goals
• Long Term Goals-are broader and can takelonger to achieve

Determining and Reaching Goals
1) Write down one job-related goal. It must be:
• Important to you
• Realistic
• Non-destructive to you or others
6) List any problems or obstacles that you might have to overcome.
7) Decide what outside help you may need. This can include:
• Other individuals or mentors
• Groups or organizations
• Further education and/or training
13) Put a date on your goal. This date should be reachable yet flexible.
14) Make an action plan on how you will reach your goal.
15) Celebrate and enjoy your success. Then renew your achievement by movingon the next goal.
