Curriculum Overview – Playlist and Electric Avenue

We hope that this information will give you an understanding of what your child is learning at school and we encourage your

MATHEMATICS

We are learning to understand measurement – money and time,

and applying visualisation skills through graphs and charts in

statistics.

COMPUTING

We will be creating music using appropriate educational

software and creating our own game in Kodu.

MUSIC

We are learning new songs, rythym and

rhyme.

GEOGRAPHY

Students will broaden their knowledge about the world's countries with a focus on location, environmental regions and physical/human

characteristics. We will look into the continent of Africa first and draw comparisons between it and Europe. We will then focus on local

history and explore changes through time.

ENGLISH

ReadingWe will be reading fiction and non-fiction texts and working on comprehension. We

are learning to clarify new vocabulary, infer meaning from more complex texts and evaluate the writer’s use of language.

Writing

We will explore balanced argument texts and follow our rhythm by creating poetry.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

We are focusing on ball games and collaborative sports.

PSHE

Areas of focus – People around us and growing up. We are looking at similarities and differences and how

the human race is all connected.

ScienceSound and Electricity.

We are looking into how sound is produced and perceived by living things, as well as introducing important rules about taking care of our sense of

hearing. In Summer 2, we will explore electricity, including

circuits, insulators and conductors.

RE

We are exploring places of worship in the major religions, focusing on

main features and their importance. We hope to visit one to enhance

our learning experience.

Art & Design

Areas of focus: African art, portraits of artists and shading.

We will explore different techniques of creating art, including collages and will replicate abstract work, which

other artists have produced.

HOW PARENTS CAN HELP:

Ensure your child arrives to school on time with everything he/she needs.

Read with your child every day. Practise weekly spellings with your child. Practise times-tables or other number facts with your child.

Ensure your child has a quiet table to sit at and time allocated to do some of his/her home learning.
