•Material conditions:

•Steel: rust

•Concrete: cracking and rust

•Wood: sturdy, but not ideal

•Design decisions:

•Steps: Steel frame filled with concrete.

•Deck: greater than CTADG standard (over 2 meters)

•Goal: to evaluate these materials and design decisions and to suggest improvements.

Maintenance Needed

Cracking on concrete abutment

Inspect the steel staircase frame

Install 2nd bike ramp?

Water collection on abutments

Replace baluster

1st improvement: Metallic Deck

Replace the wooden deck with metal

Wood needs replacement often

Metal lasts 3 times longer

Weight is same

Production cost is slightly higher

Improves maintainability

2nd Improvement: Rails Add the extra handrail in the middle. Stairs are especially slippery (due to

metal frame) Bridge is wider than 2000 mm.

Improves the heavy traffic. Safer (less falling down the stairs) Improves user experience
