VIRTUALCHRISTINE`S FIRST OPENSIMGEOGRAPHY GUIDE!!!CRAFT -THEFRIENDLY GRID!!!TAKE A TOUR OF MYHOMEWORLD!!!!!ATTNNEWBIES!!THERE`SNO PLACE LIKEHOME!!!

ello my dearest dears! How wonderful, herewe all are again ( and thereare so many of you now, mybeloved readers) ready foranother grand adventure inOpenSim, this time on myhome world Craft- theFriendly Grid. For my newreaders, OpenSim is thesoftware platform that hostshundreds, possibly thousands,of independent grids. A greatmany of these grids, orworlds, as they are often

referred to, are connected by anamped up teleportation systemcalled the hypergrid, whichallows you to plunge down thatrabbit hole from world to world, exploring and having adventuresto your hearts content. In order toget in on the action, you need tobecome a resident of a hypergridenabled grid. Which means thatyou have to sign up somewhereand log on.( If anyoneimmediately needs more concreteinfo on OpenSim,or theHypergrid, or grid registrationplease read my easy to

understand OpenSim posts!)

much touted, ever elusiveOpenSim. Not that any of themlooked very interesting, mindyou, they looked more like, tobe blunt, crummy wannabeSL´s, but still, I was determinedto see for myself what everyonewas talking about. As some ofyou probably already know, there is not alot out there aboutthe basics of OpenSim. Wellmy dears, there was even lessbefore yours truly startedblogging about it! I siftedthrough a ton of completelyunhelpful technonerd

gobbldeygook, and, well, crap, before one blog mentioned inpassing, that Craft, regionHydra, was a good jumping offpoint for the OpenSimbeginner. Eureka! A clearstatement! I recognized thename from my Firestorm GridList, so I just signed up andlogged on.

wo months on, andeverything looksdifferent. Where I sawcrummy, I now see diamondsin the rough. The lack of coordinated information, I nowsee as the small downside ofthousands of people´s ability toexpress themselves throughtheir own grids, as opposed tohaving a single Big Daddypresentation of the product. And the more I travel theHypergrid, the more I amconvinced that Craft is utterlyunique. Founders Tao Quan

and Licu Rau are incrediblysharp. Craft is fun. It´s megafriendly. It´s cutting edge. It´sbeautiful. It´s smart. It´sdiverse. It continually does theunexpected. My virtual life hasgone from only being lightentertainment, to someplace Ican go to charge my batteriesand confide in people. In myfive years wandering themetaverse as a Lady Hermit, Inever thought I would make thefollowing statement- This is mycommunity. Let me show youaround.

And virtualchristine, cartography queen is back in thesaddle! I have made my beloved readers this map of ourtour! It shows the middle section of the Craft, which is alittle over half of the grid in total. You will notice we don´teven cover the whole middle, but belive me, our 39destinations will keep you busy for a while. I always putregion names in BOLDFACE. You can plug thesenames into your world map and get a teleport. Or youcan use my map in conjunction with…

The HYDRA Station teleport panel for Craft. It´s the redcircle in the middle of my map. For my posts, I usually go out thedoor to my right, and use the panel across from the hypergate, which leads to other grids. This time, we are staying in Craft. This domestic panel is located inside HYDRA Station´s oneroom; you can´t miss it. You use it by clicking on a panel, thenOPENING YOUR CHAT WINDOW and clicking theoffered teleport. If you can´t manage that, you can type in anyof the panel names on your world map search engine, and it willoffer you a teleport. Or you can just go for a walk.

The circular building at my feet is HYDRA Station. Asyou can see, it is surrounded by connected sims. There ismore to the north that hasn´t rezzed. This is all Craft´s“heartland”. Some of the sims are on the main domesticpanels, and some aren’t. Let´s start on the eastern peninsula,to my left, named ONDA, which doesn´t have a panel.Type the name ONDA into your world map search engine, and teleport. Remember, flying over a sim crossing on land isvery iffy throughout OpenSim,and over water can just beridiculous, even if it seems like a short distance. The physicsare different here. Do yourself a favor and teleport!

Page 1 4

1) This is ONDA, which is probably Italian for wave. Why?Craft is an Italian Grid, and while lots of residents speak lots oflanguages, the translators you find everywhere come in handy. For my non western readers ,who may have only seen dumbstereotypes of Italians as greasy, spaghetti sucking mobsters, Iwould ask them to google A) Rome and Renaissance ; or B) ”western civilization as we know it” and count the Italian names .Fix yourself a snack and get comfortable. You´re gonna bethere a while. Farther east, over the water you can see thelighthouse at PELAGO(13). It too, is accessible by foot. Now lets go north, over the dunes behind me to…

2) OPERA, Licu Rau´s lovely town square. The westerngate leads to 3) PLAYA, the northern gate to 9)CAMPOS and the eastern gate to 11) SINUS. Licuwon´t mind if you just jump the wall. Once inside, you shouldgo for..

…what I think of as Craft´s Bella Notte, which I am certain isItalian for beautiful night. Would Lady and the Tramp lie?Well, Lady wouldn’t. Wasn´t it cute when their noses touchedas they ate the spaghetti … Oh, just set your sun position tomidnight already.

3) PLAYA is probably Italian for beach. I am offshore in thesnazzy motorboat, which is stationary, but plies you with freeswimsuits and champagne. Directly behind the public beachyou can see the gardens and vineyard of AGRA(5) , and tothe right, the Library building at CAMPOS(9).

Page 22

4) DUNE is exactly that. Do you see HYDRA Station inthe right hand corner?

5) I love wandering around AGRA, a charming, middleEuropean wine growing village.
