Aspirus is a non-profit, community-directed health system based in Wausau, Wisconsin. With more than 7,000 employees, Aspirus serves communities throughout 14 counties in
northern and central Wisconsin, as well as the western Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The
integrated system includes four hospitals in Michigan and four hospitals in Wisconsin, 50
clinics, home health and hospice care, pharmacies, critical care and helicopter transport, medical

Position Description
Overview: In this newly created position, the Vice President of Information Technology will serve as the
liaison between Aspirus’ Business Units, Corporate IT Operations and Enterprise Applications.
The Vice President is part of the succession plan for the CIO and will collaborate with the senior
executive teams from each Aspirus Business Unit, lead Regional IT Managers and the Director
of Enterprise Applications. The organization continues in a growth mode and feels strongly
about their mission to provide exceptional healthcare in their communities.
Responsibilities:
Patient Experience
Identifies opportunities to improve patient experience. Participates in projects/programs
designed to enhance service delivery and patient satisfaction.
Patient/Staff/Environmental Safety
Identifies opportunities to improve the Environment of Care, and patient and staff safety.
Participates in projects and programs designed to create a safe environment to avoid error.
Job Specific Duties
Strategy and Planning:
Participates as a member of the senior IT management team for the Aspirus Business
Units.
Assists with strategic technological planning to achieve business goals by working
with IT management in prioritizing technology initiatives and coordinating the
evaluation, deployment, and management of current and future technologies.
Collaborates with the appropriate departments to develop and maintain a technology
plan that supports organizational needs.
Develops and communicates business/technology alignment plans to executive teams,
staff, partners, users, and stakeholders.
Assists with development and execution of an enterprise-wide IT disaster recovery and
business continuity plan.

Acquisition and Deployment:
Assists with and communicates risks associated with technology-related investments
and purchases.
Develops business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for technology spending
initiatives.
Defines requirements for new technology implementations and communicates them to
key stakeholders.
Assists with hardware and software standardization of maintenance contracts and
pursues master agreements to capitalize on economies of scale.
Collaborates with Purchasing and Legal departments to negotiate contracts with
technology vendors.
Defines and communicates corporate procedures, policies, and standards for the
organization for acquiring, implementing, and operating new network systems,
equipment, software, and other technologies.
Operational Management:
Provides oversight of the operations and support for the desktop and end user
computing environment for the Business Units.
Establishes standards for high quality work, communicates expectations to staff,
evaluates effectiveness of policies and procedures and regularly prepares related
reports on quality measures.
Conducts research to remain up-to-date and knowledgeable in regards to industry
trends and emerging technologies in anticipation of new business processes and
system alterations.
Analyzes and improves upon technology standards across the organization to maintain
a technological and competitive edge with the market.
Acts as primary liaison for the organization’s information technology vision via regular
written and in-person communications with the organization’s executives, department
heads, councils and end users.
Creatively and independently ensures resolution to technical problems in a cost-
effective manner by engaging and supporting the various technology groups within
the Information Technology department.
Develops tracks and controls the regional annual operating and capital budgets.
Supervises recruitment, development, retention, and organization of staff in
accordance with the organization’s budgetary objectives and human resource policies.
Ensures continuous reliable delivery of information technology services through

oversight of service level agreements to assure high availability in an environment in
which downtime can impact patient care.
Assists with ensuring disaster recovery plans and business continuity plans are in place
and regularly tested to assure quick recovery in the event of disruption.
Ensures equipment and software operations adhere to applicable laws and regulations
and follow accepted industry and national standards. Monitors industry and
regulatory changes and trends to ensure full regulatory and business process
compliance. Provides recommendations and implements solutions to mitigate
compliance deficiencies.
Participates in or leads various committees, task forces, internal & external audits, and
quality improvement teams as needed.
Is responsible for ensuring compliance and effective use of policies, procedures, and
computer systems in order to maintain compliance with relevant regulatory
requirements. Regulatory agencies include, but are not limited to, JCAHO, Federal
Government, State Government, Wisconsin State Department of Health, and Wisconsin
Hospital Association. Compliance with relevant regulatory requirements will be
properly documented and made available upon request.
Directs the establishment of management controls and the preparation of department
records, as well as recurring and special reports and analysis, ensuring that they are
complete, accurate, and timely; reviews and interprets reports/analyses in order to
ascertain the extent to which program goals are being attained, and takes corrective
action as necessary.
Interacts with all associates, guests, and physicians in a courteous, respectful, and
friendly manner.
Qualifications: Knowledge of information systems development, implementation and project management
normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or
Information Systems required.
Minimum of ten years’ Information Technology Leadership and Project Management
experience preferred.
Possesses analytical skills necessary to develop and implement appropriate changes to
programs and to oversee and direct work of assigned subordinates.
Must possess excellent communication and organizational skills to work effectively with a
team environment. Thorough knowledge of operational processes and process improvement
beneficial.

For outdoor enthusiasts, Wausau provides year round
outdoor leisure opportunities including hunting, fishing,
skiing, tubing, boating, kayaking, and camping. Rib
Mountain State Park has the fourth highest peak in
Wisconsin and offers hiking and nature trails as well as
winter skiing. The city hosts the Badger State Winter
Games, an Olympic style competition for all ages
involving figure skating, skiing, curling, bowling, biking,
and billiards.
Wausau also has a strong commitment to showcasing the
visual and performing arts within The Grand Theater
and the Woodson Art Museum that rank statewide in
providing quality entertainment. The city is known for

Wausau Region Communities
Kronenwetter - Surrounded by woods, lakes, rivers, and
hills, Kronenwetter is located about five miles south of Wausau. It
is the fastest growing area in north central Wisconsin and has
seven community parks and two county forests that are ideal for
family recreation opportunities.
Marathon City - A scenic hillside community located on
the banks of the Rib River and about 10 miles from Wausau, the
area has top rated schools with numerous recreational facilities,
including nearby skiing at Granite Peak and Nine Mile County
Forest.
Merrill - Known as the “City of Parks,” the city is located on
the Wisconsin River in nearby Lincoln County. Merrill is home to
many area employers.
Mosinee - A small city between Wausau and Stevens Point,
Mosinee has twelve city parks with easy access to boating and
fishing at the Wisconsin River Falls.

Rib Mountain - A tourist town located in the center of
Marathon County, Rib Mountain residents enjoy surrounding
natural beauty and lower taxes. Rib Mountain State Park, Nine
Mile Recreation Area, Lake Wausau, Granite Peak Ski Area, and
State Park Speedway are the main attractions.
Rothschild - The Village of Rothschild is a progressive
small community with a variety of residence style neighborhoods.
Residents have access to parks, Lake Wausau and national retail
shops.
Schofield - Bordered by the Eau Claire River and Lake
Wausau, Schofield’s main landmark is the Brooks and Ross Dam
with two boat landings that make it a prime location for canoeing,
kayaking, and fishing.
Weston - The appeal of this town east of Wausau is balance
between the city and nature. The Village of Weston has a growing
economy, top-ranked schools, attractive neighborhoods, low taxes,
area shopping centers, and nightlife options.
