from Pastor Gordon
Hello Emmanuel!
I hope that you’re out there doing some “fishing for people” after being part of the “Gone Fishing” Series. It has been a reminder of God’s desire to have each of us share what Jesus has done for us with other people. I hope that you have committed yourself to our “Each One Reach One” challenge. Feel free to share your testimony of how God is using you to reach others with the love of Jesus in an email or on the Facebook page!
On July 4th we’ll have our first coordinated outreach effort starting at 7pm. This event is not for Emmanuel folks, but aimed at those who will come onto our property who are not part of our Emmanuel Family. It’s a chance for us to serve the community and strive to be the hands and feet of Jesus to others. It’s important for us to keep in mind that although you’re very welcome to come to Emmanuel and enjoy the fireworks, this event is about others. Even if you haven’t signed up to help (and I hope you have) you can still be a reflection of Jesus through a smile and a hello. Thanks for being in prayer for this event. We desire to create bridges into the life of Christ and Em-manuel.
VBS is upon us! What a wonderful way to reach families. Statistics show that if kids get involved in Church their parents will most likely follow. This pertains especially to those who are unchurched. So in a way VBS can be an outreach event, too. Please do your part in getting the word out about this year’s VBS. There’s more info else-where in the newsletter. It’s not too late to sign up to help or register kids.
One Worship will take place on Sunday, July 29, with the Youth leading that day. You’ll hear testimonies about Youth Camps and enjoy a service that is focused on God through the lens of our Youth. We are blessed to have an active Youth Ministry at Emmanuel and this is a way to give encouragement to them as we worship to-gether. We’ll have a potluck afterwards. More information about the potluck is forthcoming, but I hope you will make One Worship Sunday a priority as we blend both of our services together into one.
Just around the corner is another outreach opportunity with the Water Tent at the Kansas Free Fair. I’m looking for a person or couple to champion this outreach who will be the “face” of this great opportunity to be Je-sus to others. If you’d like to talk more about this, please contact me soon. Be looking for a sign up list on the sign up board soon.
By the time you receive this month’s newsletter we will have had our June 24 meeting regarding the state of the UMC and what that means for Emmanuel. If for some reason you couldn’t make it to the meeting and would like a copy of what was handed out, please contact Rita at the Church office, and please feel free to contact me if you have questions. Please also continue to be in prayer for Emmanuel and our response to the status of our de-nomination. God has been faithful for over a century to Emmanuel and He will continue to be if we keep our eyes on Him.
July is a prime month for vacations for our families and our Staff so I’d like to wish all of you safe travels and restful times as you spend time with your families. Have fun and don’t forget to keep your eyes on Jesus when you’re away. As the old hymn says “Take the Name of Jesus with You”. Blessings!

YOUTH MINISTRY NEWS
Amp it Up 2018 –This year’s Amp it Up camp ran from May 29- June 2 and was a HUGE success. The
campers enjoyed a concert and masterclass with members of Stars Go Dim. We had 8 students (along with Kaitlin) who attended camp this year. They were: Annie Bathurst (vocals), Lucas Cook (songwriting), Mason Cook (vocals), Sarah Cooper (piano), Grace Griffith (guitar), Claire Weishaar (piano), Grant Weishaar (drums), and Victoria Weltha (tech). Lucas helped write a song that was played at the end of camp, and Claire and Grant were able to play with a team that lead worship at Annual Conference. Thank you, Church, for helping support this equipping camp!!
Extreme Kansas Camp – Middle School Extreme Kansas Camp. June 25-29. Students who are going
to the Middle School Camp this year are: Jase Adam, Eden Bathurst, Lexi Barnes, Hope Cole, Aubree Cooper, Mara Crane, Bri Deweese, Sterling Engle, Randi Longenecker, Rydge Longenecker, Zach Miller, Kiah Nordgren, Tristan Randles, Chloe Rock, Weston Rock, Stocton Timbrook, Mia Wasylk, Aaralyn Wendland, and Kaleb Worthen. Mason Cook and Zoë Cooper will be serving on staff during middle school week as well. The high school camp (June 11-15) had 8 students: Brynna Ade, Annie Bathurst, Alice Bathurst, Addison Hasenbank, Reese Longenecker, Ryan Longenecker, Grace Randles, Bailey Rock, and Ashton Roth. Pray for God to move in each of these student’s lives during camp!!!
MidWest Regional Camp at Golden Bell – High School Midwest Regional Youth Camp at Golden
Bell. July 15-20. We will make trek out to Colorado in mid-July for another great HS camp experience. Camp
includes lots of activities, and 2 chapel sessions per day with worship, relevant teaching, and a proclamation of the
Gospel. This year’s theme is focused around IDENTITY! Students going include: Chelsey Armbruster, Mason Cook, Coye Crane, Roc Engle, Rebecca Gale, Rebekah Johnson, Ally Johnson, Camden Liebau, Chance Liebau, Meagan McClure, Eli Prater, Gabe Prater, Eli Riegel, Noah Riegel , Leo Snyder, Matthew Wal-ters, and Brody Williams. Pastor Marc, Alix Kunkle, and Emma Bathurst will also be going as adult chaperones. Please be in prayer as students get out of their comfort cages, and experience God in a new way.
Course of Study School/ Summer schedule
I am approaching my second summer of Course of Study classes in Dallas, Texas. I will be attending Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University for two on -campus classes: Transforma-tive Leadership, and Introduction to Bible, from July 9-13. The new hybrid class model will also in-clude two additional weeks of off-campus work. The first week of off-campus work will take place while I’m at Golden Bell camp, UGH. Please pray that I will be able to learn what God wants me to learn in class, but also juggle the camp counseling and class load for the weeks afterward. Because of vacation (July 1-8), COSS (July 9-13), Golden Bell camp (July 15-20), and off-campus COSS assignments (July 16-27), I will be rather difficult to get ahold of during the month of July. Any and all prayers will be appreciated! - Marc

Water Tent Outreach at the Central Kansas Free Fair August 1—August 6
DID YOU KNOW—
We’ll continue this year our tradition of hosting the water tent at the Kansas Free Fair August 2 through
August 5. We are in need of people to serve with setting up the tents on Wednesday, Aug. 1 from 8:30am to
noon. We’ll also need people to work shifts during the Fair as well as have people set up each day and tear
down the water coolers and table information. You can sign up to help at the bulletin board outside of the
Church office. This is an opportunity for us to reach out to the community with the love of Jesus!
Please contact Pastor Gordon if you are interested
in learning more about Emmanuel's annual
Baptism scheduled for Sunday, September 9. This is your opportunity to be
baptized by immersion, or to mark your spiritual growth by remembering your baptism."
Church Picnic and Baptisms This year we’re making a paradigm shift in our annual gathering for Baptisms. In order to make the event more family oriented with representation by all generations we’re moving this event to Brown’s Park. Having the event closer to Abilene will hopefully facilitate more Emmanuelites being in attendance. The event will be filled with games for the kids, some Worship music, great food, and the highlight of the day - Baptisms.
Sunday, September 9, 2018 Games and Fellowship 3:30pm Baptisms 5pm Dinner 5:30pm Please sign up at the sign up board so we’ll know how many to plan for food. Bring a lawn chair, some cookies to share, and feel free to bring outdoor games, as well. The Staff will have some organized games planned, too. If you need a ride please call the Church office.

It’s important for people to know their ministers are available when someone has a question, needs some help, or just wants to talk for awhile. Our office coordinator, Rita Macy, will be happy to receive your office visits, telephone calls, and email messages. We work diligently to use the communication resources available, such as voice mail and cell phones, to be available most of the time for question. Our pledge to the congregation is to respond in a timely and courteous manner. When someone calls and says, “It’s urgent,” we will be contacted by the quickest means possible. The ministers are often out of the building for a variety of ministry tasks. They are available to schedule an appointment with you at your convenience. Please contact us if we can be of help to you. We want to be available to serve you!
