URBANISMINFILMOverviewThiscourseusesnarrativefilmasthebasisforanalyzingandvisualizingcitiesandarchitecture.Eachweek,afilmisscreenedfromaninternationalfilmographythatincludescontemporaryandhistoricworksbydirectorssuchasAlfredHitchcock,F.W.Murnau,CharlesDassin,FritzLang,GilloPontecorvo,WimWendersandWayneWang.Followingtheirscreenings,thefilmsarediscussedbasedonanalyticalexercisesgivenatthestartofclassmeetings.Asreferencesformidtermandfinalassignments,theyareinterpretedforuseinthemakingoffive-minutevideosofstudents’architectural,planningorurbandesignprojects,orofbuildingsorcitiesthatstudentsselectthroughdiscussionwiththeinstructor.Coursereadingsconsistoffilmreviewsandreferencematerialsintheformofadigitalcoursebook.
