Because of sin, sickness and death have entered the world, but are overcome through the resurrection of Jesus. He hears the cry of those in need, healing the sick and raising the dead to life. He made himself poor that we
might become rich.
O LORD, BE MY HELP Today we encounter readings that draw us into the mystery of suffering and death. In the past few years we have witnessed the devastation of life and property through earthquakes and hurricanes. So many lifted their lament to God, simply asking, “Why?” This is an honest expression of anger toward a God who we believe is the giver of life. When we lose a loved one, we can wonder why the presence of Christ is not enough to make that person rise, even from death, as did the little girl in to-day’s Gospel passage. Again we raise our voices and ask, “Why?” At moments such as these, let us make the prayer of the psalmist our own: “Hear, O L , and have pity on me; O L , be my helper.” Let us pray that our mourn-ing will one day be turned into dancing. TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — God did not make death, nor does God rejoice in the destruction of the living (Wisdom 1:13-15; 2:23-24). Psalm — I will praise you, Lord, for you have rescued me (Psalm 30). Second Reading — Your abundance should supply the needs of the others (2 Corinthians 8:7, 9, 13-15). Gospel — Your faith has saved you (Mark 5:21-43 [21-24, 35b-43]). . READINGS FOR THE WEEK Monday: Am 2:6-10, 13-16; Ps 50:16bc-23; Mt 8:18-22 Tuesday: Eph 2:19-22; Ps 117:1bc, 2; Jn 10:24-29 Wednesday: Am 5:14-15, 21-24; Ps 50:7-13, 16bc-17; Mt 8:28-34 or, for Independence Day, any readings from the Mass “For the Country or a City,” nos. 882-886, or “For Peace and Justice,” nos. 887-891 Thursday: Am 7:10-17; Ps 19:8-11; Mt 9:1-8 Friday: Am 8:4-6, 9-12; Ps 119:2, 10, 20, 30, 40, 131; Mt 9:9-13 Saturday: Am 9:11-15; Ps 85:9ab, 10-14; Mt 9:14-17 Sunday: Ez 2:2-5; Ps 123:1-4; 2 Cor 12:7-10; Mk 6:1-6a

Mass Intentions
We encourage you to honor a loved one, living or deceased, with a Mass, a gift of bread and wine, sanctuary candle, altar candle, chapel candle or altar flowers. Requests must be submitted on or before the Friday, two weeks before the desired date. Please make a donation with each request. Thank you.
God’s love for us and our love for God aren’t seasonal.
We teach our children the importance of consistency in things that are important
(e.g. brushing one’s teeth). Praying in church is a necessary action
for us, Catholics. The Mass is the greatest prayer.
Bring your children to Mass on Sundays. We need to thank God.
We need blessings, forgiveness, inspiration and God’s peace even when school is out.

Tuesday, July 3. Feast of Saints Thomas, Apostle Thomas doubting gave way to faith when he saw the living Load
Answers to last week’s questions After father announces “a reading of the holy gospel according to …,” we make the sign of the cross on our forehead, lips, and heart. While doing this we pray, “May the word of the Lord be on my mind (make the sign of the cross on the forehead), on my lips (then on the lips), and in my heart (on the chest).” In other words, the action is a physical manifestation of the prayer asking God to help us understand the gospel (mind), to proclaim it ourselves (lips), and to live it in our daily lives (heart).

Sponsors for Baptism and Confirmation
Being a sponsor (Godparent, spiritual parent) is a sacramental ministry. The sponsor takes part in the ritual as a Catholic and provides example from his/her life through living and acting as a full member of the Catholic Church. Because of the seriousness of this ministry, the Church has the following requirements: +The sponsor must be fully initiated into the Catholic Church through Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist, and be at least 16 years of age. +The sponsor must be a Catholic who has an active life in the Church and provides good example. Someone married outside the church is not able to be a sponsor. Also, a Catholic who has left the Church is not permitted to stand as a sponsor of a new member into the church.
