Types of Classifiers

• Plural Classifiers (PCL)- Classifiers that show plurality; more than one

• Descriptive Classifiers (DCL)- Classifiers that show shape

• Locative Classifiers (LCL)-Classifiers that show orientation

• Instrumental Classifiers (ICL)-Classifiers that show how an object is used.

Describing the Arrangement of a Room

• Start in the doorway• Sign the biggest object in room and label with classifier• Follow a logical sequence: (360 degrees)

– Left to right– Right to left

• Use of classifiers– Cannot use a classifier until you label it– If you don’t know the classifier, pointing is okay– Fingerspell signs you don’t know and then use a classifier.
