Two Weeks Online Training Programme on
“Protected Cultivation Technologies for Climate Smart Agriculture”April 21-28, 2020
Farmers in India are exposed to several
challenges including small and continuously
fragmented land holdings, climate variability
and change, vagaries of weather, poor soil
health and lack of knowledge and exposure
to modern agricultural technologies.
Modern farming technologies like poly-
house and shadenet-house farming
provide full or partial protection from
adverse weather conditions, enable crops
to be grown all year around and
production of uniform quality crops,
protect from birds, animals and human
activities, enhance the productivity
by 8-10 times, enable appropriate
management of insect pests, diseases
and weeds, use of minimum inputs
such as labor; and provides better
income in a short period of time.
Hence protected cultivation
farming is emerging as one of the better
alternative new techniques in agriculture
and gaining foothold India. However for
successful protected cultivation farming,
one needs to understand the protected
cultivation structures, climate control,
production technologies, plant protection,
water management, marketing, guidelines
and policies. With this view, two weeks online
training course on “Protected Cultivation
Technologies for Climate Smart Agriculture”
is being organised by CAAST-CSAWM from
April 21-28, 2020 through online mode only.
About
The project entitled "Center for Advanced Agricultural
Science and Technology (CAAST) on Climate Smart
Agriculture and Water Management (CSAWM)" is being
implemented in Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth (An
Agricultural University), Rahuri, Maharashtra under World
Bank Sponsored National Agricultural Higher Education
Project (NAHEP) of Indian Council of Agricultural Research
(ICAR), New Delhi, Government of India, Since 2018.
One of the major objectives of CAAST-CSAWM project is to
develop the capacity amongst the faculties and students of
MPKV Rahuri and other Agricultural Universities and related
organisations for the development and adoption of the
precise Climate Smart Agriculture and Water Management
technologies as well as to conduct on-the-job training and
case study based learning to enhance the employment and
placement rate; and business and entrepreneurship
opportunities.

the protected cultivation structures that are being used in
India.
