Revelation 3:18-19 (New Living Translation)18 So I advise you to buy gold from me—gold that has been purified by fire. Then you will be rich. Also buy white garments from me so you will not be shamed by your nakedness, and ointment for your

eyes so you will be able to see. 19 I correct and discipline everyone I love. So 

be diligent and turn from your indifference.

3 John 1-42 Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. 3 For I rejoiced greatly 

when brethren came and testified of the

truth that is in you, just as you walk in the truth. 4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth. 

Hosea 13:14"I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from 

death. O Death, I will be your plagues! O Grave, I will be your destruction..."

Mark 10:45"For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His 

life a ransom for many."

2 Chronicles 16:9"For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show 

Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him..."

Genesis 20:1-18 (New Living Translation)1 Abraham moved south to the Negev and 

lived for a while between Kadesh and Shur, and then he moved on to Gerar. 

While living there as a foreigner, 2 Abraham introduced his wife, Sarah, by

saying, “She is my sister.” So King Abimelech of Gerar sent for Sarah and had her brought to him at his palace. 

3 But that night God came to Abimelech in a dream and told him, “You are a dead man, for that woman you have taken is

already married!” 4 But Abimelech had not slept with her yet, so he said, “Lord, will you destroy an innocent nation? 5 Didn’t Abraham tell me, ‘She is my 

sister’? And she herself said, ‘Yes, he is my brother.’ I acted in complete innocence! 

My hands are clean.” 6 In the dream God responded, “Yes, I know you are innocent. That’s why I kept you from sinning against me, and why I did not let you touch her. 7 Now return the woman to her husband, 

and he will pray for you, for he is a

prophet. Then you will live. But if you don’t return her to him, you can be sure that you and all your people will die.” 8 Abimelech got up early the next 

morning and quickly called all his servants together. When he told them what had

happened, his men were terrified. 9 Then Abimelech called for Abraham. “What have you done to us?” he demanded. “What crime have I committed that 

deserves treatment like this, making me and my kingdom guilty of this great sin? 

No one should ever do what you have done! 10 Whatever possessed you to do such a 

thing?” 11 Abraham replied, “I thought, ‘This is a godless place. They will want my wife and will kill me to get her.’ 12 And she really is my sister, for we both have the same father, but 

different mothers. And I married her. 13 When

God called me to leave my father’s home and to travel from place to place, I told her, ‘Do me a favor. Wherever we go, tell 

the people that I am your brother.’” 14 Then Abimelech took some of his sheep and goats, cattle, and male and

female servants, and he presented them to Abraham. He also returned his wife, Sarah, to him. 15 Then Abimelech said, 

“Look over my land and choose any place where you would like to live.” 16 And he said to Sarah, “Look, I am giving your

‘brother’ 1,000 pieces of silver* in the presence of all these witnesses. This is to compensate you for any wrong I may have 

done to you. This will settle any claim against me, and your reputation is 

cleared.” 17 Then Abraham prayed to

God, and God healed Abimelech, his wife, and his female servants, so they could 

have children. 18 For the Lord had caused all the women to be infertile because of what happened with Abraham’s wife, 

Sarah.

1 Samuel 16:1-131 Now the Lord said to Samuel, “You have mourned long enough for Saul. I have 

rejected him as king of Israel, so fill your flask with olive oil and go to Bethlehem. Find a man named Jesse who lives there, 

for I have selected one of his sons to be my king.” 2 But Samuel asked, “How can I do that? If Saul hears about it, he will kill me.” “Take a heifer with you,” the Lord replied, “and say that you have come to make a sacrifice to the Lord. 3 Invite Jesse

to the sacrifice, and I will show you which of his sons to anoint for me.” 4 So Samuel 

did as the Lord instructed. When he arrived at Bethlehem, the elders of the town came trembling to meet him. 

“What’s wrong?” they asked. “Do you

come in peace?” 5 “Yes,” Samuel replied. “I have come to sacrifice to the Lord. Purify yourselves and come with me to 

the sacrifice.” Then Samuel performed the purification rite for Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice, too. 6 When

they arrived, Samuel took one look at Eliab and thought, “Surely this is the 

Lord’s anointed!” 7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see

them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the 

heart.” 8 Then Jesse told his son Abinadab to step forward and walk in front of 

Samuel. But Samuel said, “This is not the one the Lord has chosen.” 9 Next Jesse

summoned Shimea,* but Samuel said, “Neither is this the one the Lord has 

chosen.” 10 In the same way all seven of Jesse’s sons were presented to Samuel. But Samuel said to Jesse, “The Lord has 

not chosen any of these.” 11 Then Samuel

asked, “Are these all the sons you have?” “There is still the youngest,” Jesse replied. “But he’s out in the fields watching the 

sheep and goats.” “Send for him at once,” Samuel said. “We will not sit down to eat until he arrives.” 12 So Jesse sent for him. 

He was dark and handsome, with beautiful eyes. And the Lord said, “This is the one; anoint him.” 13 So as David stood there among his brothers, Samuel took the flask of olive oil he had brought and

anointed David with the oil. And the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David from that day on. Then Samuel returned 

to Ramah.

Colossians 3:12-1512 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, 

kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13 bearing with one 

another, and forgiving one another, if

anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. 14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. 15 And let the peace of 

God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.

1. Having a Heart to Love God

Matthew 22:36-4036 "Teacher, which is the great 

commandment in the law?" 37 Jesus said to him, " 'You shall love the LORD your 

God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.'  38 This is the first

and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: 'You shall love your 

neighbor as yourself.'  40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the 

Prophets." 

2. Having a Merry (Joyful) Heart

Proverbs 17:22"A merry (joyful) heart does good, like medicine, But a broken spirit dries the 

bones"  

3. Having a Pure Heart

Matthew 5:8"Blessed are the pure in heart, For they 

shall see God"  

 4. Having a Forgiving Heart

Matthew 6:14-1514 "For if you forgive men their 

trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your 

Father forgive your trespasses. 

5. Having a Broken and Contrite Heart

Psalm 34:18"The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a 

contrite spirit"

Psalm 51:17"The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart--These, O 

God, You will not despise"

Contrite is described as:1. caused by or showing sincere remorse. 2. filled with a sense of guilt and the desire for 

atonement; penitent: a contrite sinner.

6. Having a Peaceful Heart

Proverbs 14:30 (NIV Version)"A heart at peace gives life to the body, 

but envy rots the bones" 

Colossians 3:15-1715 Let the peace of Christ rule in your 

hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another

with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude 

in your hearts to God. 

7. Having a Giving Heart

Malachi 3:6-126 "For I am the LORD, I do not change; 

Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob. 7 Yet from the days of your fathers You have gone away from My ordinances And have not kept them. 

Return to Me, and I will return to you," Says the LORD of hosts. "But you said, 'In what way shall we return?' 8 "Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me! But you say, 'In what way have we robbed You?' In tithes and offerings. 9 You are

cursed with a curse, For you have robbed Me, Even this whole nation. 10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me 

now in this," Says the LORD of hosts, "If I will not open for you the windows of

heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room 

enough to receive it. 11 "And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, So that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground, Nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you

in the field," Says the LORD of hosts; 12 "And all nations will call you blessed, For you will be a delightful land," Says the 

LORD of hosts. 

Luke 6:38"Give, and it will be given to you: good 

measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you." 

8. Having a Thankful Heart

Psalm 100:4-54 Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, 

And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. 5 For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations.

Colossians 2:6-76 As you have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, 7 rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding 

in it with thanksgiving. 

9. Having a Faithful Heart

Proverbs 28:20A faithful man will abound with blessings, "But he who hastens to be rich will not go 

unpunished"

Luke 16:10“If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities"
