Norwegian Prognoses

Last prognoses estimate that the Norwegian side of the Barents holds:

• 6 billion barrels gas equivalents• 2 billon barrels oil equivalents

Value: 2.5 times the present Norwegian Oil Fund

Grounded tanker at Røst-120.000 tons oil in 31 days

Precautions

• Extension of territorial border, from 4 to 12 nautical miles

• Mandatory lanes off the coast for ships with hazardous cargo

• VTS• Shorebased AIS

stations• Establish more oil spill

recovery bases• Increase the tug boat

capacity• Refugeports and

groundingareas to be further developed

Existing agreements:• Exchange of information

concerning nuclear warnings• Oil-pollution agreement • Military agreement for

preventing situations in territorial waters

• Agreement for SAR operations

Aims of the Norwegian Government:• Information exchange with Russia

concerning a ship reporting system.

• Cooperate with Russia on safety at sea and oil pollution control

• Exchange of AIS data both in the Barents Sea and Skagerrak (Helcom)
